Off-beat style in an on-the-money location
Close to the Tiber River in the Velabro neighbourhood (the part of the city that was once Imperial Rome), the cutting-edge Rhinoceros Roma was totally rethought by Alba Fendi (daughter of the renowned Italian fashion house founder) and an avant-garde architect. The result is modern and stylish, but it honours its historic beginnings.
The restaurant and fifth-floor rooftop serve elegant Italian dishes and an impressive wine list—mostly Italian, naturally. It’s the perfect spot to gaze out over Velabro and the 4th-century Arco di Giano with sundowners.
The 24 spacious apartments are all a little different from each other, but all have exposed walls and kitchens (with cocktail-stocked fridges) hidden behind big steel panels. Thanks to original photos of the rooms and graffiti on the walls, you'll get a glimpse into the building's previous life. But Rhinocerso Roma is a forward-looking place, too. A touch panel controls temperatures and lights. You can play your favourite tunes on the Bluetooth speakers. Or watch a boxset on your Bang & Olufsen television. And in an innovative twist, much of the furniture is on wheels and can be easily repositioned to customise your apartment. It’ll feel like your very own crash pad in magnificent Rome, and you might wish you’d booked a few extra nights…
