A photogenic and fabulous Greek village
Like stepping into a postcard of Santorini, this small Greek village is a maze of narrow streets lined with whitewashed houses and blue-domed churches. Achingly pretty in itself, Messaria’s gorgeousness extends to the area around the village, with a patchwork of vineyards and farmland that keep the island’s restaurants supplied with local wine and fresh produce.
With a village this lovely, it’s tempting to stay put. But Messaria is an excellent base for exploring the rest of Santorini. It’s located between the capital of Fira and the east coast beach town of Kamari, both of which are only a short drive away. It’s easy to find all sorts of boat trips departing from Old Santorini Harbour, whether you fancy visiting hot springs, the Santorini caldera, or setting sail on a sunset cruise with a glass of bubbles.
If you’re visiting Santorini and haven’t yet pencilled in all of your overseas activities, you’re in for a treat. easyJet holidays is proudly supporting the Cyclades Preservation Fund’s campaign in Santorini, Posidonia Alert, which helps to protect Posidonia Oceanica – a vital species of seagrass that absorbs carbon up to 15 times more efficiently than terrestrial forests.
As part of this work, we’re happy to offer a guided snorkelling experience for just £1. The trip will be led by a master diver who knows the caldera – and Santorini – inside out. You’ll have the chance to see the unique Posidonia seagrass meadows for yourself and enjoy swimming in the stunning waters of the Aegean Sea. Plus, the trip includes use of snorkelling equipment, as well as pick up and drop off. Click here to book.
