"The Art Deco Imperial Hotel is very centrally located close to the Namasti Republiky metro station and tram links, and comprises of a very traditional old building that comes complete with modern touches. Just bear in mind that the signage on the building bears no reference to "art deco", and is simply named as the Imperial Hotel. It took me a while to realise that I had walked past a couple of times.
It is very easy to get to the hotel on public transport from the airport, and travellers over the age of 65 should bear in mind that they can travel on buses, trams and the metro etc free of charge. There is no need to register in advance; just get on. Best to carry your passport or driver's licence in case you are stopped by an inspector.
Take the 59 trolley bus from the airport (they run very frequently) to the terminus at Nadrazi Veleslavin. There, transfer to the metro (Line B) and travel to Mustek. There, change to Line A and go the one stop to Namesti Republiky. Follow the signs for the Masarykvvo Nadrazi exit. On exiting the station, walk away from where the buses and
trams are and Na Porici runs across thte bottom after a two minute walk. The Imperial hotel is on the opposite site of the street, just to your right.
I was greeted very warmly on arrival and all facilities were clearly explain to me in detail. I booked the Imperial Suite, which is on the top floor. This makes it very quiet, with only a hint of traffic noise during the day, which I found rather soothing, and a reminder where I was in Europe. There were two lifts in the building, of which only one was operational. The lifts were controlled by room key cards, making things very secure.
The main suite door opens into the sitting room and there is an adjacent washroom. The furnishings were traditional and very substantial, with a decent amount of storage space, which includes an ironing board and safe. There was a two seater settee that was comfortable and also a separate seat. There is a writing desk and minibar. Bottled water was provided, but this was chargeable, though there was clear signage indicating that tapwater in Prague is perfectly safe to drink. What I really liked about this room were the skylight windows, which provide plenty of natural light and a pleasant view of the rooftops and spires from both the sitting room and the bedroom. There were blackout blinds fitted, meaning that the rooms could be pitch black for sleeping.
The bedroom was spacious with a huge king-size plus bed. The room was serviced daily with the bed linen changed every three days as a standard, though this could be done daily by placing a card on the top of the bed. I met the housekeeping staff on a couple of occasions and they were extremely warm and friendly. There was a flat screen TV mounted on the wall at the bottom of the bed in addition to the one in the sitting room. There was another large wardrobe and a second safe. The large marble bathroom had vanity units for two, a separate shower cubicle and a very large soaking tub. Large supplies of high grade toiletries were available, and these were arrange in "his and her" groupings. There were plenty of towels and bathrobes, and the towels were replenished daily.
Breakfast was served each morning in the main restaurant, where lunch and dinner could also be taken. The design of the expansive dining area was very traditional and attractive and breakfast was a buffet style. There was a good variety of food items to choose from and all items were fresh. The serving staff were constantly busy and worked together as a team. They were friendly and helpful.
All surfaces in the room and public areas in general were very well maintained and immaculately clean. There was a sauna in the lower level, though, I did not use this.
Check out was swift and efficient and my satisfaction was checked. My bill was accurate. From checking out of the hotel to arriving at the airport took just 45 minutes. If you allow 90 minutes, you will be absolutely fine. This meant that I could easily have had time to take breakfast before leaving. The airport was very efficient and clearing emigration took seconds.
This reviewer enjoyed his stay at Art Deco Imperial and was well looked after."
