Palatial-looking beachfront hotel
The Medina Solaria and Thalasso looks less like a hotel, and more like a Tunisian palace. It’s a huge, sand-coloured building with sweeping archways and palm-freckled gardens. And it’s in a prime location, right on a private stretch of sandy beach and close to Yasmine Hammamet’s shops and restaurants.
The pool scene steals the show here. A huge, lagoon-like swimming pool weaves through the middle of the resort. It’s split over three levels, and ticks off caves, a waterslide and a whirlpool bath. If that’s not enough to have you properly chilling out, try the spa. It’s beautifully done, and features a sauna, steam bath, indoor pool, and an almost never-ending menu of treatments. Alternatively, kick things up a gear with the likes of tennis or aerobics. Little ones, meanwhile, can make friends at the kids’ club.
Food and drink-wise, it’s all about variety. O Blu is the main restaurant, and the place to enjoy international cuisine laid out buffet-style. For Tunisian delicacies, head for the snack bar, or try crowd-pleasing Italian favourites at the à la carte restaurants. A Moorish café and a lobby bar for cocktails complete the set-up.
