"We recently spent five nights at the Prinsotel Alba & Spa as a family of four with two children aged 9 and 11. Overall, it's a beautiful, elegant hotel with exceptional housekeeping, and it boasts a fab location—close to plenty of shops and restaurants, and just a short walk from a clear, clean beach. However, there were a few points regarding the dining plan and services that future families should be aware of.
Cleanliness and Housekeeping (Near-Perfect Service!):
The hotel is immaculately clean, with one small exception: the stairways leading to the rooms needed sweeping and appeared to be the only area where the high cleaning standard was missed. That said, the housekeeping team do an otherwise absolutely incredible job. Our rooms were kept spotless, our towels were replaced every day, and all the amenities—the shampoos, conditioners, and body washes—were generously refilled, with ample supply for everyone. This team deserves huge praise for their dedication.
Pools and Spa Facilities:
The Spa facilities are lovely and a major plus. Regarding the pools, we visited in October (the final closing week of the season), which seemed to have an unexpected benefit: children could use the indoor pool at any time although originally we eere told it was 1.30-3.30, which was truly great! The weather wasn't good on one of the days, so having all-day access to the warm indoor pool was incredibly helpful and appreciated by the kids. The outside pool was, as expected for October, a bit chilly but still usable.
Dining (Half Board Feedback):
We were on the half-board plan. Breakfast was nice, offering the usual assortment: pastries, yogurt, eggs, fry-up items, and fun treats like churros and pancakes. As a vegetarian, I was happy to always find something substantial to eat. Dinner usually had something everyone could eat, but we found it got a bit repetitive after only five nights. We can imagine if you were there for a week or longer it could get very boring. We tried the sushi restaurant one lunchtime, but it was expensive and felt overpriced. We were very disappointed to discover after paying that we could have received a 20% discount on lunch and dining if we had mentioned we were hotel guests, but we were never informed of this policy. We ended up paying full price, which was frustrating and feels like a key piece of information that should be clearly communicated at check-in.
Hygiene Concern:
A significant negative was the persistent hygiene issue with fruit flies. This wasn't just an isolated incident; the flies were visible over the fruit, cold food items, and breads during both breakfast and dinner service, which definitely needs immediate attention from management.
Disappointing Service:
The animation team didn't put a lot on for the kids (aged 9 and 11) in that final week, which was a bit disappointing as they would have still liked some entertainment.
Overall:
The Prinsotel Alba & Spa is a truly lovely hotel that served us well for our five-night stay. The location is fantastic, and the service, particularly the housekeeping and the all-day indoor pool access, was excellent. If you go half-board, be prepared for some repetition in the dinner menu, and make sure you ask for the hotel guest dining discount! We still had a great holiday and would recommend it to other families."
