Elegance by the Amstel River
Built in 1867, the five-star Intercontinental Amstel Amsterdam is one of the oldest and grandest hotels in the capital. Resembling a large, stately home on the riverfront, it has welcomed many famous faces including Madonna, David Bowie and even the late Queen Elizabeth II herself.

Public transport
Many of the sights are within walking distance of the hotel, but it also has great access to public transport. The Museum Quarter is a 20-minute walk or there’s a tram stop two minutes’ stroll from the hotel, which will take you there in 10 minutes. The nearest metro station is also a short walk from the hotel and will transport you to Central Station in just five minutes.
De Pijp district
A must-see for foodies, the vibrant De Pijp district is bursting with diverse restaurants. Head to Ferdinand Bolstraat for everything from traditional Dutch dishes to Israeli cuisine, burger joints and Vietnamese cafes. The area also boasts a lively atmosphere after dark.
Rijksmuseum
Considered one of the world’s finest art museums, Rijksmuseum is home to almost a mile of galleries, featuring a whopping 8,000 artworks. Here you can catch a glimpse of many masterpieces by local legends including Rembrandt, Van Gogh and Vermeer. The museum is a 20-minute walk or a 10-minute tram ride from the hotel.
