Grecian-style hotel with a rural outlook
The Ionion Blue Hotel offers up seclusion and scenery all in one. It’s on the outskirts of Kalamaki, surrounded by fields and olive groves and with a view of Mount Skopos. That said, it’s also handily located, just a 10-minute walk from the nearest shops and tavernas, as well as a sandy beach famous for its nesting loggerhead turtles.
The hotel itself is Grecian in style, with pastel-hued walls and sweeping arches. Its star turn is its huge swimming pool, which is set in a suntrap terrace and armed with a good helping of loungers and parasols. There’s a section just for tots to paddle in, too.
The waterside bar-cum-restaurant is just the ticket for cocktails and cold drinks. It serves food, too – full English breakfasts in the mornings, light bites like sandwiches and toasties, plus plenty of local Greek fare. Pool, air hockey and football tables get in on the act inside, along with a big TV for catching live sports events.
Rooms are contemporary with a Mediterranean flavour. Think dark woods, neutral tones and lots of light. All come with balconies, TVs and fridges for keeping snacks and drinks cool.
Just so you know, free WiFi is only available in the hotel's public areas.
