"This Holiday Inn lies in the Obersendling district of Munich, about 20 minutes to the Marienplatz Square from the Machtlfingerstraße Underground Station, which is 10 minutes away by walk from the hotel.
We had booked a room for our family of three (including a teenager) using an online booking service wherein we had to bid for the hotel room in Munich, since all good hotels seemed to be fully occupied or highly priced for our travel dates. In a last minute effort of booking for 3 nights while we were in Germany, we were left with no choice but to go the bidding route not knowing which hotel (room) would be successfully reserved for our stay. After the booking was confirmed, we came to know that the room had been reserved in Holiday Inn. We were happy to get some decent accommodation in Munich without breaking the bank.
When we arrived in Hauptbahnhof Munich by ICE train from Berlin, we looked at the transport options to reach the hotel from there and were pleased to discover that the hotel could be reached by the underground (metro) trains. We took some time to figure out the way to platforms and book tickets for the underground train. Once we reached the Machtlfingerstraße Underground Station after a change at Sendlinger Tor station, we had to walk about 10 minutes to the hotel.
Once at the reception, we were greeted by a couple of ladies in the front desk. Our booking allowed accommodation for 3 adults but the breakfast was only for 2, so we made a request to include our son’s breakfast free of charge. It took them a while to discuss and conclude but fortunately for us, the request was accepted, and we were off to find the way to our room.
The lobby itself is not very large but it is sufficiently spacious and the elevators are right in the center. We took the elevator to the first floor and then started our walk toward the room pulling our luggage ourselves. As it turned out, our room was located at the far end of the hotel wing so it seemed bit of a walk to start with. But once we entered the room, we realized that we were fortunate to be away from the main roads and accompanying noise, if any.
The room features included air-conditioner, flat-screen TV, tea/coffee facilities, desk and a chair, side tables with reading lamps and a private balcony that overlooks the garden — ideal for enjoying the morning coffee or a quiet afternoon tea. The sofa bed was already set up in the room when we checked in, so it was convenient for us to settle down quickly. The double bed was big and comfortable and we usually had a good sleep. The room size was not too big but we were able to manage our large suitcases and other bags without posing a great challenge to the movement inside. The cupboard beside the bathroom was good enough to store a lot of our stuff for the 3 nights stay.
The bathroom is of a decent size having a bath tub and modern fittings including a glass partition for a shower. No other toiletries are provided except for the necessities like shampoo, body wash and hand wash along with hand and bath towels.
The restaurant in the hotel on the ground floor serves German and international food. The hall is of good size with comfortable furniture and pleasing décor. The breakfast was sumptuous with a lot of variety of cheese, sausages, salamis, fresh fruits, cereals, juices, tea and coffee, doughnut, pastries, waffles, yogurts, dry fruits, porridge, breads, rolls, egg preparations and a few other hot items. We enjoyed having breakfast there and meeting a server from our country and chatting with him for a few minutes elevated the experience, not to mention the service. The staff in the restaurant was courteous and helpful. On the day of the checkout, the breakfast service was moved below one level to a restaurant that wasn’t as comfortable.
The hotel is located in a peaceful neighbourhood and puts you within 20 minutes of the heart of Munich and other famous sights such as Munich Olympic Stadium, Hofbrauhaus Munchen, and Nymphenburg Palace, are within easy reach of the hotel by the underground trains. Without the connectivity, the stay here would have been less desirable. Walking to and from the station added to the whole charm of staying in this wonderful city.
I would recommend it highly to anyone traveling on business or leisure whether alone or with family to this magnificent city."
