"It is said that 1st impressions are the most important. The Marriott Rive Gauge made a great first impression. That is why I am submitting a review now, after our first day, rather than at the end of our stay.
Prior to arrival I read many of the online reviews. I am perplexed at what would have generated some of the negative reviews? From check-in to our final good nights everything has been great. In a 30+ year career in the travel industry I have seen the good and the bad. The Rive Gauche is one of the good ones. 👍Particularly the staff, they are doing it right.
Our first contact was with Miriam at check-in. Very welcoming and professional. We were quite early. While we had coffee in the club she searched around for a very nice room to accommodate our early arrival.
The restaurant and executive club currently share a space while the main restaurant is being renovated. We did not have breakfast but we did look over the offerings and noted that there were a good variety of selections.
Also, we observed the hostess and staff hustling to take care of their guests. Very impressed.
We visited the club again in the evening and were welcomed by Adam. He enthusiastically showed us around and explained what was available. We're nobody important but he treated us like special guests. And it wasn't just us. I saw him do this with several other guests that were there for the first time.
As in the morning, all the staff were hustling to keep things running smoothly.
The selections of light appetizers was very good and staff kept them stocked. Again, with reference to negative comments, I don't see what they were complaining about? Maybe it's because they expect that venue to be a full course dinner menu? Come on folks! 🙄 It's lite finger food and a beverage before going out for a nice dinner later.
We have a room on the Paris view side. More spacious than many other places we have stayed in Paris and Europe. The #6 metro line runs across the street from the hotel. I was initially concerned that noise might be a problem. Unless I really strain to listen I can barely hear the train when it passes. Also, there is little to no street noise. I am a very light sleeper and I haven't noticed any issues. Loud people in the halls? Well, that's another story. Those are just inconsiderate people, not the fault of the hotel.
We have stayed in several neighborhoods in Paris, Rue Clear, Opera, and Montparnasse. We have found Montparnasse to very economical and as nice as any of the others. Rue Daguerre, just north of Denfert Rochereau, has a good selection of restaurants. We stayed in that neighborhood on a previous visit.
The Rive Gauche location is very convenient to anywhere in the city. It is appx. a block either way to the St. Jacques or Glaciere stops on the #6 line. The Denfert Rochereau station, on the RER B line, is only a 10 or 11 min walk. It was just as easy to walk from there rather than connect to the #6.
If I had any "negative" comment it would be that we cannot see the Tour Eiffel. Somebody put the Montparnasse tower in the way! ;-)
Seriously, all in all, a very good first impression! Comfortable hotel and great staff.
Kudos for Miriam and Adam!"
