"A mixed experience – let’s get the bad out the way first:
The room wasn’t ready at check-in time of 15:00 and I was just told to come back in 30-45 minutes. A simple ‘we are sorry, please take a seat on our terrace and have a drink on the house while you wait’ would have been a much better option.
The other disappointment was the restaurant. Good menu, good selection of beverages but poor service. The starter came quickly, then a very long wait for my pork medallions, which never a came but instead a Wiener Schnitzel eventually arrived. The waiter blamed the kitchen for the mix up and promised to bring what I had ordered. After another long wait the pork medallions arrived – meat was stringy, the vegetables and noodles were cold. I left - at least they never charged me for the meal.
On the positive side: the location is excellent, very close to the Schönbrunn park and palace; and the district of Hitzing itself is one the most desirable areas of Vienna with the Schönbrunn Zoo, the Hermesvilla, the Klimt Villa and the Otto Wagner Hofpavillon. It is very well connected with the U4 to Karlsplatz/Naschmarkt area and the Opera, the Wien Mitte station (for the fast airport express train) and the Schwedenplatz in the old centre of Vienna.
The hotel offers a traditional décor, my room was fairly large and comfortable, with a decent size desk, a small balcony with a table for two and a view towards the Vienna Woods. Good-sized bathroom (but no toiletries, slippers or bathrobe). As much as my restaurant experience was disappointing I can’t fault the quality and variety of breakfast buffet and you can get eggs and omelettes cooked to order. And all available at a fairly decent price – excellent value for money."
