"Our room was a third floor room in the reception building. Building E.
Maintenance issues on arrival were quickly sorted out.
The room was smaller than the pictures used in the information provided, when booking, and did not include the advertised sofa.
The room was a little tired and would probably benefit from renovation.
Check, on the website, what should be supplied in the room in arrival.
A bottle of water is listed as being supplied, but was not. Reception were adamant water was supplied and it proved a challenge to getting it. We got the impression that we were not believed.
Tea and coffee, plus a kettle are supplied, but note that the tea and coffee are not replenished.
There is a fridge in the room. There is a hairdryer in the bathroom and a wall soap dispenser. We had a bath with a shower head over the bath.
There is also a TV in the room, with multiple channels, but we didn’t switch it on.
Storage space was limited. A wardrobe with hanging space and a few shelves. No drawers anywhere in the room. A safe is in the wardrobe, but costs extra. We were not told about pool towels, but I believe there is a 10 Euro deposit and it’s 1 Euro to replace them.
Other building accomodation blocks are centred around the main pools. If you have a pool-facing room you will probably hear loud music from around 10:30 in the morning until around 10pm.
If you like quiet, peaceful surroundings this may not be for you.
If you prefer lots of action and activities, you will probably enjoy the hotel.
You should be aware that the basic all-inclusive package being sold only includes the buffet restaurant, and poolside snack bar for meals.
The buffet restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and evening meal. It does get very busy at peak times, when it may be difficult to find a table, and staff find it difficult to keep the food replenished.
The range of food should suit most.
Drinks are dispensed from machines. This includes coffee, wine, beer and water.
Pressure in the beer system often leads to excess foaming of the beer.
There can be very long queues for coffee, so you may want to take a thermos flask and make coffee in your room to take to mealtimes.
The pool snack bar has a more limited choice, but the outside bar area also includes an ice cream machine. The ice cream is more like a sorbet. At the time of our visit, this was the only bar open.
The Sports Bar, near Reception, was not included in the all-inclusive package and was open intermittently during our stay.
The hotel has a small shop and there is an Aldi next door.
There were not enough sun beds for guests during our stay at the end of March. All were taken or reserved by 10 am at the latest. There was very little space for the hotel to add more.
There is a coach that leaves for the area nearer the coast, at regular intervals, during the day, that is free of charge. Get in the queue early to make sure you can get on. The coach does make prior pick-ups so could be very full when it arrives at the stop near Aldi.
Alternatively, there is a taxi rank opposite Aldi, nest door to the total. The fare to the lighthouse area of Maspalomas is around 8 Euro for up to four people.
Entertainment is on a stage in the pool bar area, in the open. It can get much cooler in the evening, so you may need to wear something warmer than during the day.
If watching the evening entertainment, tables started filling up around 8pm at the end of March.
Evening adult entertainment starts at 9pm and details of this, and other activities, are on the hotel’s web site.
. Hotel Mirador Maspalomas By Dunas
The site is available in Spanish, English, German, or French.
All staff at the hotel and friendly.
Check-out is 12:00 and wristbands are removed. This prevents you getting additional food and drink, although there is a water dispenser in the reception area, and a bowl of fruit.
The whole package is good value for money, but we are unlikely to return."
