"Lovely apartments, but our final night was extremely upsetting
We stayed at Palmeras Garden Apartments for five nights 23rd to 28th of July, as a family and, until our final night, we had been really happy with the accommodation and had enjoyed our holiday. Unfortunately, what happened on our last night completely changed our experience.
We stayed in apartment 48. During the night, my mum and my daughter woke up and found what appeared to be bed bugs in their bed, with marks/insects visible on the bed linen. Both of them were bitten extensively and have been left with numerous red, sore and uncomfortable bites. We took photographs of both the bedding and their bites.
My daughter is autistic, and the experience has caused her a great deal of anxiety and distress. Waking up to find bugs in the bed she had been sleeping in was extremely upsetting for her, and since returning home she has been anxious about sleeping and worried that we may have brought them home in our luggage.
What disappointed me almost as much as the incident itself was how it was handled when I reported it.
At around 10am on the morning we were checking out, I informed reception about what had happened. I was simply told that the cleaner would change the bedding. There was no apparent urgency, no offer to inspect the room while we were there, and no real acknowledgement of the fact that two guests had woken up covered in bites.
As we were travelling home that day, there was little more we could do at the time, but I was very concerned that simply changing the bedding would not be sufficient for a suspected bed bug problem. I sincerely hope the bungalow was properly inspected and treated before another family stayed in it.
It is such a shame because we genuinely liked the apartments before this happened. Had the issue been taken seriously and dealt with appropriately when I reported it, I would feel differently about our experience.
I am sharing this review because I think other guests should be aware, particularly families with children. We have reported the matter formally to Jet2 and provided photographs of the bedding and the bites, and I hope it is thoroughly investigated.
The accommodation itself had been great, but finding suspected bed bugs on our final night, the extent of the bites, the distress caused to my daughter, and the response from reception have unfortunately overshadowed what had otherwise been a lovely holiday."
