"Unfortunately, my experience here has been really poor from the moment we arrived through the front door. Firstly, we’d only been there 5 minutes when we were asked if we could leave early on our last day given that the hotel is closing for the season on that day and management want everyone out asap. Not quite the warm welcome I was hoping for!
We arrived late and asked where we could grab some food with the children - we were told to go to the rooftop bar, Coya or La Sabina. La Sabina was closed - it had closed at 9pm apparently (which Spanish restaurant ever closed at 9?!) and it turns out the rooftop bar doesn’t sell food. Coya is a high end Peruvian restaurant and they said they couldn’t accommodate food for the children. Tired and frustrated we went back to the front desk who just shrugged their shoulders and pointed us to the concierge…who also just shrugged her shoulders, said nowhere would be open outside the hotel either and said our only option was room service. We eventually ate at 11.30pm. It took over 24 hours for the leftover food and plates to be cleaned away.
When we woke up the next morning, the hotel was being pounded by an intense storm with flooding across the whole hotel. Of course the hotel can’t do anything about the weather, but the building sprang more leaks than the titanic. Water pouring through the roof, electric light fittings, massive puddles filling hallways, slippery floors. When the electric light above my breakfast table started spraying water all over us, it went from being an annoyance to a genuine safety concern. The staff simply didn’t know how to manage it nor the needs of the guests within the situation. Once again, everything seemed to be met with a shrug of the shoulders.
Unlike other hotels I’ve been to, this one doesn’t have much in the way of internal communal spaces. The bar is tiny and the entrance is designed for aesthetic rather than somewhere for people to sit. So we decamped to our room, only to find it had also sprung a leak. We were quickly moved to another room in the hotel which was handled well, but just another inconvenience in what had started to become a long, frustrating list.
Due to ongoing bad weather, we decided to have dinner in the hotel at La Sabina. The prices are eye watering, even for Ibiza (€33 for a burger) but we decided the convenience was worth it. To say it was an underwhelming experience is a chronic understatement. We ordered 5 meals, all of which came out at different times with a 25 minute delay between the first and last being delivered (the irony being the last being a salad that didn’t require cooking but did require multiple chasers to find out where it was). My husband ordered pasta which came out stone cold. He sent it back and refused any replacement given how long it’d taken to arrive in the first place. The restaurant manager was very apologetic and the only member of staff during our whole stay to even acknowledge our annoyance and frustration at the hotel. His name is Carlos and the hotel would do well to have more staff like him.
On a more general note, breakfast is very good - huge choice and excellent quality. Good job really - you need to fill yourself up to get through the day given the lack of lunch options.
Rooms are fine - clean and comfy bed. Not exactly high end luxury. Ours was long and thin with a weird bar area jutting out which was neither use nor ornamental. One of those set ups where you really question who signed off the design and what the refurb money was actually spent on. Not much thought seems to have gone into the needs of the guests (I don’t need a bar, I need coat hangers!).
The pool areas are comfortable and probably great in the height of summer. As seems to be the running theme with this hotel though, because we’re almost at the end of the season, they have closed a number of areas or simply not staffed them, so getting a towel can be an endurance test and pool bars and restaurants are closed.
On this matter, other guests are as frustrated as us - we have spoken to many and I have overheard some heated conversations between staff and guests. The point being that if you advertise on your website that you are open and all the facilities you offer, you cannot then close down the facilities as you wish just because it’s nearing the end of the season for you. Just because the season is winding down does not mean that it’s acceptable to the holiday makers, who have chosen to spend their hard earned money and precious annual leave with you, for you to start to wind down the hotel they are staying in. Even more so when almost all businesses close to the hotel are now closed - the hotel should be offering more, not less. If the hotel is going to close in all but name, then this needs to be made VERY clear to prospective guests before they book. Remember, we as customers are paying for a service - you’re not doing us a favour by letting us stay here.
And I think therein lies the problem - the general attitude to customer service here is lackadaisical and disinterested; that you should be happy with whatever you’re given and customers should bend to accommodate staff and hotel owners needs, not vice versa. Having had a not too dissimilar poor experience at another Palladium Hotel 4 years ago, I can see the common thread and just won’t make the same mistake again.
We’re here for another 4 days. If I hadn’t already paid for it, I would pack my bags and go home."
