"I had checked in online so a quick couple of checks at desk and room cards allocated to us room 1005 as I requested.
The room
Lovely and warm, nice white fluffy towels water and milk in fridge. Good hospitality tray. Everything you need in the room. Love that they’ve changed to full size toiletries in the bathroom.
Decided to eat in the restaurant on our first night, no problem getting a table.
As we were shown to the table the waiter (head waiter I think) said he would bring us some water to the table.
We waited, no water but a waitress did eventually come over and take our food order, she then brought over a jug of water.
Ordered the pork skin puffs off the nibbles menu as a starter while we waited a very very long time for the mains.
Mains arrived, not good. The portions are minute, I presume al la carte.
I got the chicken dish, 2 tiny peices of chicken breast, 2 very small peices of potato, some mushrooms, a few tiny bits of bacon. I left some of the chicken as looked very pink.
Hubby had the lamb shoulder again tiny bit of lamb moulded to a round shape, broccoli, mashed potato. Said it tasted ok but he was hungry.
We asked for the bill as the waitress came to clear the table, no-one asked if the food was ok.
They added £4.00 for a jug of tap water and 12.5% service charge.
EVENING MEAL NOT RECOMENDED!!
Next day went for breakfast, much nicer than the evening food, staff lovely and attentive on the ball and nothing too much trouble. Good selection of food on buffet and food cooked to order was excellent on both mornings.
We went out at 9.45 returning to room at 3pm. The room stank of a sewage smell and hadn’t been serviced. I found someone from housekeeping on our floor they advised they service between 9 & 5 and I should have asked if I wanted the room serviced before we came back. How would I know this?
The housekeeping lady came into room said she would get the room serviced and “stay some air freshener) we went and sat in the bar while this was done. However although on returning we couldn’t smell anything immediately I found when I had a shower the drain in the shower was the reason for the smell.
I reported this on check out and also the wood wall beside the bed had something sticky on the wood. Who ever is cleaning isn’t doing it correctly, if someone’s checking it they need to check properly, also spraying air fresher to cover a sewage smell isn’t solving the issue. Also reported the sofa in the room is all split.
I asked if I would get a receipt via email as wasn’t offered one at check out told yes, but I’m still waiting.
The rooms at this hotel need a refurbishment asap. Staff on reception at check out didn’t seem to care that there were issues. Housekeeping need to do their jobs.
The hotel claims to be 4 star, rooms are not.
Good location, near to bus station and city centre but if you’re looking for a luxurious stay with good food, this is not the place."
