"We got a really good deal on this hotel for a last minute trip.
Pros:
• central location - we walked everywhere and could easily access most places within ten minutes (bars/restaurants/museums). It’s round the corner from a metro station too, and busses stop close by for the Danube area.
• we got the new design room after reading a few negative reviews on the older ones. I’d recommend doing this. The room was a great size, the decor modern and there was ample storage space (we had three cases (!) and unpacked everything). Room features included a hairdryer, safe and mini fridge too.
• Guest services were really good. We
requested an iron and an ironing board which was delivered to the room. On the tv there was a list of things they offered (which we did not need) including plug adaptors, laundry services, mail forwarding, printing, room service, etc. They also had different sized pillows and a shoe cleaner.
• the staff were generally really friendly. We had positive interactions with them and were made to feel welcome.
• the room was really clean. There was also no bathroom mould (an issue often found in cheaper hotels). The cleaners did an excellent job whilst we were out too.
• the shower was deceptively powerful that when on full blast it jet streamed everywhere from the force. We didn’t use it on full power once after the fact, which was really good.
• the TV was a smart TV, so you could stream your own shows/music from a phone or laptop via WiFi connection. The WiFi was good too.
Cons (reason for dropped star):
• Our primary issue was with the temperature of the room. We went in February - there was a sign by the thermostat saying in winter months AC is unavailable and in summer months, the heating is unavailable. Neither AC nor heating worked with the window open (this was expected). However, the room was HOT. We were outside in gloves and scarves because it was so cold but felt suffocated coming back into the room. Even with the window open it was sweltering, as it didn’t open very far, so we were never a comfortable temperature. This did affect our sleep and we found ourselves not wanting to change until last minute before we left. It would have been useful if the AC was permitted during winter, as this would have made a huge difference.
• One of the night shift staff members essentially interrogated us when we came down to request an extra toilet roll. We were asked “why do you need it?” and “is it urgent? Do you need it now?”. We suspect this was because there was no toilet paper on hand, she had to search for it after we requested it. However, this was very bizarre - I’ve never before had to explain why a person needs toilet paper."
