"A lovely hotel with a few areas that could be improved
We had a nice stay at Hotel Aquailias and overall found it to be a clean, comfortable and well-located hotel.
There were plenty of positives. Our cleaner was fantastic, the beds were comfortable and the hotel was generally very clean. The reception staff were friendly and helpful, and it was particularly useful having someone who spoke both fluent Spanish and English. We also really enjoyed seeing the turtles around the accommodation and the views from the hotel were lovely.
The hotel has two pools, including an adults-only pool, which was a great idea. The waterfall around the adults-only pool was also a lovely feature. Unfortunately, the adults-only rule wasn’t really enforced until the final day of our stay, so there were children using the pool throughout most of our holiday. The pool bar also only appeared to be open once during our week, which was disappointing.
The location is good if you have a hire car. Lidl, Hiper Dino and a shopping complex are around five minutes away, while Loro Parque and the beach are around 10 minutes away by car. Parking is available, although it does fill up quickly.
Our main disappointment was the food. We were glad we hadn’t booked all-inclusive as we decided to eat at the hotel one evening for €17 each with the hotel discount. Unfortunately, the food was quite limited and, more importantly, was cold. We also had an issue with the snack bar. We had previously been allowed to pay for food there, but when we tried again on our final day, we were told it was only available to all-inclusive guests. There was also a fly around the food at the time, which wasn’t particularly appealing.
The hotel could also benefit from some updated décor. Our TV English channels were not working. Our particular room didn’t get direct sunlight, meaning we struggled to dry clothes towards the end of the day.
One other thing worth mentioning is the hill leading up and down to the hotel. It is quite steep and wasn’t something we were expecting from the booking information. I do think some form of barrier or blocks on the downhill side would make it feel safer.
There was also an occasion where a staffy dog came onto the poolside. For people who are nervous/scared of dogs like myself, this was uncomfortable.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay and there are definitely things we liked about the hotel, particularly the cleanliness, staff, pools, views and location. However, the food, inconsistent pool rules and a few other issues prevented us from giving it a higher rating."
