"The Green Garden resort is an oasis of calm and excellence in the otherwise bustling atmosphere of Tenerife. We visited late July / into August. A family of four with 15 and 11 year olds.
There are many positive aspects to this hotel:
- We had a “family room” which was actually a separate bedroom, good size bathroom, main double room and it also had a small kitchen. This was beyond our expectations and worked very well for us. Moreover, despite being near the pool and dining area it was very quiet. Solid fittings, easy to keep cool. Spacious. Really spot on for our family.
- Evening meal and lunch. Yes, it’s small for an all-inclusive but the food quality was excellent and (importantly) you could see the chefs cooking and replacing dishes throughout the service. The themed nights gave good variation and the “staples” each day were also enough if those themes were not what you fancied. Earlier in the service is quieter and about 70 minutes in it can feel busier but never crowded.
- Breakfast. Standard stuff done very well. The juice machine was a favourite and the croissants were excellent.
- Drinks. Good quality and variety and the option to pay more.
- Snack-bar. A very good idea and we used it for fruit, drink (including beer on tap), pastries and the occasional sandwich.
- We loved the evening entertainment and the “closeness” of the set-up that puts everyone in the atmosphere.
- It’s in the middle of a golf course and so the walk to the town / beach is not the prettiest. However, the set-up of the hotel means you are not overlooked and feel “cut off” from the world which is brilliant. You can get almost everywhere for under ten euros too which we did probably half the nights.
- Loungers. Pretty good in the main. Some selfish behaviour but largely people arrived and bagged a spot and someone from the family was generally there with their gear which is (to us) appropriate. I would say the only time when you might not get what you want would be if you are arriving mid-morning expecting a prime spot for the day. If you want a “pool day” then be in position by 9.30am I would say. (We came back from day trips between 2pm and 5pm on some days and always got 3 or 4 together.)
- The foam party was excellent and we were there for two of them loads of energy and fun. Our son loved water-polo each day. Our daughter also did ice-cream making.
- Evening entertainment was a bit on the cheesy side at times with acrobats and magicians but always filled the 9.15pm – 10.00pm slot well and people gave the acts the consideration they deserved.
- Personally, I am a big music fan and I liked the way the music across the site infused the day. Lots of latino-styled -easy listening covers in the restaurant, good dance tunes for the pool events. There was a fantastic duo performing one evening and we also had Abba, an Elvis / standards singer as well. The foam parties were superb for tunes.
- My son enjoyed the gym (he’s 15) and providing there is ‘consent’ from an attending adult when getting the key, he could use it. A sensible approach that was much appreciated for our family.
If there were areas where things could be even better, they would be:
- Desserts were largely cakes and mouses with some fruit flourishes. Anything chocolate was quickly taken and so my view is that they should plan to produce more chocolatey stuff when it’s on the menu.
- The coffee was not great until we stumbled upon putting two long coffees from the left machine into one cup.
- We appreciate the “eco” aim but the same towels for lounger towels for ten days is quite a lot when they are getting used daily with sun cream and the odd drink and food spill.
- At night, all the tables are set for dinner so it’s a bit odd leaving one table to then set up elsewhere which we like to do for card games and watching the entertainment. It’s not a problem, really – but the dining area is the one main area and a couple of off-shoot spaces might work well.
Off-site tips.
- Siam Park is world class. Get a taxi there for about 8.50am to get in and get fast-passes (they are probably not essential but they massively enhance the day). We hammered two days on fast passes and were exhausted both days.
- We used Maxicat for a boat trip from Costa Adeje and were very impressed with the service.
- Las Americas is nearest and best for the “glitzy” strip vibes in the evening.
- (We didn’t do a beach day at all…testimony to our love of the hotel.)
- Siam Mall is good and worth a morning.
Finally, the staff collectively deserve massive praise. From the welcome to advice, calling taxis, access to the gym, late check-out as well as a strong cleaning team and simply superb bar and restaurant staff…every interaction was classy. I even got one waitress to tell me what song the band were playing (it was Spanish so I could not tell).
You get the impression they are a close team and they really care…I’ve been in bigger all-inclusives where you can literally see workers avoiding proper work. Whoever leads this team does a good job in setting expectations and all the staff are a credit to ethos of the hotel."
