"As we were shown our star prestige sea view suite my heart sank. I expected double the width. Long thin and somewhat dismal. Certainly dated with no usb ports built into wall or plug sockets each side of bed. The bathroom was depressing with dingy dark tiles and no windows, it had irritating steps to step over into toilet area and bath shower area (step needed as walk in shower with bath in floor by it. No flannels so I requested them. The water bubbled up through the plug hole in the bath when showering and handyman came out but was the same after. Cheap toiletries attached to wall, shampoo squirty bottle never worked so used body wash. In Star Prestige there is only a tiny pool to cool off in (and jacuzzi) - right up the far end which is a track for some although we were close. If you lie outside your room the sea view is blocked by a wall, although there is an option to walk to sunbeds in a circular terrace where there are great views. The à la carte breakfast (star prestige guests) restaurant had a couple of members of staff who were very loud over familiar which was toe curling. They meant well but should have guaged their audience. Some people refused to go there for breakfast due to a clown character serving. Eating in the main restaurant in the evening you’d hear two lots of music at the same time due to our hotel music and bar below…so annoying. Good music but I don’t want to hear Sting ‘Fields of Gold’ competing with Simply Red’s ‘Money’s too tight to mention’ at full pelt. Also due to no instruction we were unaware for 3 nights of the dishes laid out inside the restaurant (for viewing) for waiter service. Bad communication. I also developed an upset tummy when there and wondered if it was the water they put into reusable bottles in our room ..I felt uneasy about how clean the bottles were. Our terrace looked like a car crash each morning as evening turn down didn’t tidy away dirty plates cups glasses. I hated going to terrace first thing and having to wash up cups for cups of tea. Then clearing wine glasses etc. not on. Sloppy.
Good bits
Beautiful bar
The main pool and gardens are beautiful. Beds available always (even if you have to wait 10mins for pool guy to bring pillows)
90% of staff are terrific
Complimentary hats and bag on arrival
Overall although it wasn’t bad but it’s not our kind of place, we shall stick to our other two fave hotels which are super yet just as chilled. It just lacked a certain je ne sais quoi. We needed to try somewhere new, it was interesting. I realise there’s masses of repeat guests so each to their own. Have fun if you go."
