"This hotel is in such a stunning location with stunning grounds itself but sadly feel I can’t give it more than 3 stars.
On arrival we were told that check in wasn’t until 3pm (we arrived at 9am) but helpfully we were checked in with access to facilities and area to get changed.
The grounds of this resort are stunning which is also set in a stunning location . Some of the reviews say it is a little outdated but this gives the hotel and its grounds a very nice feel of the local area.
There is a lot to access at this resort, including outdoor and indoor pools, splash park, play park for children, sports activities and spa. The local beach is a very short walk where there are a couple of restaurants and shops.
I feel it is only fair to review this resort point by point as whilst there is some positives there are also some negatives which are the reasons why we wouldn’t return.
1. Room. We had a 2 bedroom apartment. This was very spacious and had a nice little kitchenette are which was helpful. The bathroom area has a separate bath and shower with a nice dressing area. There was however only 1 bottle of complementary water between 4 of us when we arrived. Toilet paper is topped up daily, however our soap was never replenished. Towels were changed daily and beds made daily. Cleanliness is mentioned below.
2. Cleanliness. The grounds are stunning and clean this includes both indoor and outdoor areas however there is a real issues with ants and flys. Positively our towels in our rooms were changed daily but the rooms are not cleaned daily as advertised. We ensured our rooms were tidy daily as requested so that the cleaning staff can do their job but it seems they changed the towels, made the beds and left. This was evident as there was evidence of sand/crumbs still present when we arrived back to our rooms. There was one day of our seven day stay where the floor was swept but this was because a family member was present. There was no other cleaning for the rest of the stay and we cleaned our surfaces ourselves. I would have expected cleaning to be more important with the presence of ants which were inside and outside our rooms, in the kitchen area and in the wardrobes. Another major big issue for us was the FLYS on the FOOD. We did not eat at the snack area as the food had flies on them and there were no coverings to protect from this. This resulted in us buying our own snacks from the local shop. Flys were also an issue in the main buffets restaurant, they were on the food/deserts/sides and flying round us as we ate. I just cannot comprehend how this is ok and the expected norm around the food without the resort taking any measures to cover the food with it only needing opened to access it. This is a huge hygiene issue. All of the drinks stations were also covered in wasps and flys.
3. This leads me onto the food. Upon first glance there appears to be a lot on offer but for a 5 star resort this was very cheaply made and bland food. We preferred breakfast as there was sweets, savoury’s and cooked breakfasts on offer, but by day 3 we dreaded lunch and dinner. More often than not the food on offer was pork or fish with very little taste, potato dishes were repetitive and the usual salad/sides were on offer. The food was poor for both fussy and non fussy eaters. We even ended up buying food from the local supermarket rather than eating in the resort on our last day.
4. Drinks. There are drinks stations as mentioned above which offer a good variety of soft drink, hots drinks, beer, water and wine however as mentioned above there is a huge issue with flys and wasps. Drinks at breakfast, lunch and dinner was a nightmare though. The drinks at this time are table service only and more often than not waiters would ask what you would like and then not return with drinks. It was very hot when we were here and a cold drink with our food was very much appreciated however if the drinks did arrive they were warm. Within the all inclusive cocktail menu there was a lot on offer. We tried most of them and whilst they had a lot of taste, in my views the spirits were watered down. There is no way we could drink that much spirits at home and not be very drunk (every glass was poured with half a glass of spirits).
5. Pools. We tried both the main pool and the pool at the top of the resort. We also spent some time away from the heat in the indoor pool. The pools were very clean and there were no issues with these at all. The indoor pool is only open to families until 2pm. After this it states it is over 16s only and comes at an additional charge. We are a family of 4 adults as our children are now adults and when we went back to access this after 2pm we were told it was 22 euros each for 2hrs which in my view is extortionate.
6. Service. Service varied from person to person. Some waiters were very rude and seem to have an attitude with guests despite us being a very polite and grateful family. We did observe some guests not even saying please or thank you so can see what waiters would get sick but when we are respectful we expect the same back. There were others who were lovely and always offered a service with a smile.
7. Air conditioning. There was air conditioning in our room, whilst one of the bedrooms appeared to not work properly this didn’t affect our stay in our apartment. There is however an issue with air con in the rest of the resort, it seems there is non in the buildings meaning meal times and bar/entertainment on the night was very hot and uncomfortable.
Overall, I feel disappointed that I’ve got negatives to say. But those negatives are the things that make or break a holiday particularly when it comes to food and hygiene. Although we didn’t eat much we found all four of us struggled with tummy issues despite drinking bottled water and can only put this down to the uncleanliness of the food. As mentioned above this is such a stunning resort in a beautiful area and whilst you think you are paying for a 5 star resort/experience - this sadly isn’t the case."
