"Disappointing experience – well below the advertised Platinum standard
We booked Palladium Hotel Menorca through TUI, having been advised that the hotel offered a high-quality, four-star Platinum holiday experience.
Unfortunately, our stay fell considerably short of expectations. Although the hotel benefits from an attractive location, the food, facilities, maintenance and overall standard were extremely disappointing.
Location
The hotel is situated in Arenal d'en Castell, an attractive part of Menorca with a beautiful beach and pleasant surrounding scenery.
The location is undoubtedly one of the hotel's stronger points. However, an attractive setting does not compensate for the shortcomings in the facilities and overall holiday experience.
Atmosphere
The atmosphere was not what we expected from a platinum family hotel.
Several areas appeared neglected, including damaged sunbeds, missing mattresses, tired poolside furniture and poorly maintained communal areas.
We also witnessed inappropriate behaviour by other guests, including nudity in communal areas and an incident involving sexual activity visible to children. This was particularly uncomfortable during a family holiday.
Overall, the hotel lacked the quality, presentation and attention to detail that we expected.
Rooms
The in-room refreshments were disappointing for a hotel marketed at this standard.
Our minibar contained just one can of water, which was not replenished during our seven-night stay. Coffee facilities consisted of basic sachets, with no coffee machine or regularly replenished refreshments.
The balcony lighting was centrally controlled, meaning we were unable to switch off the bright external lighting ourselves.
Individually, these might seem like minor issues, but collectively they contributed to an experience that felt far from premium.
Cleanliness
The cleanliness and general condition of the pool and surrounding areas were concerning.
The swimming pool appeared dirty and in need of repainting. Several sunbeds and umbrellas were damaged, while some daybeds had missing, dirty or torn mattresses.
There were also areas of deteriorating woodwork around the foyer, evidence of water damage and an old bed or mattress left near the entrance.
These issues gave the impression of a property requiring significant maintenance and investment.
Service
Although drinks were served by staff, the overall dining service was basic and lacked the attention expected from a premium all-inclusive hotel.
There was no waiter-served restaurant dining available to us, and queues frequently developed at the limited freshly cooked food stations, even when the restaurant did not appear particularly busy.
The limited availability of food between main restaurant opening times was another major disappointment.
Food and dining
This was by far the most disappointing aspect of our holiday.
There was only one buffet restaurant available to us, with no à la carte alternatives.
The freshly prepared food was repetitive and limited, frequently consisting of fish, burgers and beef, which on occasions was extremely tough. There was very little variety throughout the week.
A wok cooking station was present, with food displayed, but we never witnessed it being staffed or used during our stay.
There were no outdoor barbecues or additional freshly cooked food stations offering the variety we expected.
Between main restaurant opening times, the food available was extremely limited. The offering consisted of basic ham and cheese sandwiches on white bread, with portions restricted to three small triangles per person.
Even the bread station within the restaurant was frequently empty, and queues regularly formed for freshly prepared food.
For a hotel marketed as offering a Platinum all-inclusive experience, this was extremely poor.
Amenities
The pool facilities were disappointing.
A number of sunbeds were damaged, umbrellas were broken, and several daybeds were missing mattresses or had visibly worn and dirty coverings.
Despite their condition, some daybeds were offered at an additional charge of €20 per day.
The swimming pool itself appeared poorly maintained and in need of attention.
The condition of these facilities significantly detracted from our enjoyment of what should have been a relaxing family holiday.
Sleep quality
Our sleep was disturbed by external noise, including refuse collection vehicles operating at approximately 11:30 pm.
The centrally controlled balcony lighting was also frustrating, particularly as we had no ability to switch off the bright lights ourselves.
These were avoidable inconveniences that affected our comfort.
Value for money
In our opinion, this hotel did not represent good value for money.
We booked with the expectation of a four-star Platinum experience, but what we received was a fairly basic all-inclusive offering with limited dining options, poor food variety, tired facilities and numerous maintenance issues.
The additional charges for daybeds, lack of minibar replenishment and limited food availability further undermined the impression of a premium holiday.
Overall
Menorca is a beautiful destination, and the hotel's location is certainly appealing. However, the overall experience was extremely disappointing.
We recognise that hotel ratings and individual expectations can vary, but we believe there is a significant gap between how this hotel was presented to us and the standard we experienced.
We have submitted a formal complaint to TUI, supported by photographic evidence.
Unfortunately, based on our stay, we would not recommend this hotel to anyone expecting a premium four-star all-inclusive family holiday.
The hotel requires considerable improvement in its catering, maintenance, facilities and attention to detail before we would consider returning."
