"Stayed as a family of four (two adults, two kids) in a one-bedroom sea and pool view apartment, room 419.
Location:
Hard to fault the location. The hotel sits right in the heart of Sa Coma, with the weekly Wednesday market running on the street directly behind it and a shop right at the door of the hotel. There are 4/5 restaurant options within easy walking distance, though none of them stood out as exceptional. Sa Coma itself is a fairly quiet resort compared to somewhere like Cala Millor, which is only a short taxi away and offers a lot more in terms of nightlife and things to do while still being family friendly. If I were booking again, I'd lean towards Cala Millor for that reason.
Room:
We booked a one-bedroom apartment and had inquired in advance about a sea view and the hotel wanted €40 per night. It turns out most of the one-bedroom apartments face the sea anyway, with only some rooms overlooking the road at the back. We ended up with a sea and pool view on the fourth floor (room 419) anyway, which was lovely.
The room itself was well equipped with everything a family needs, though there were no condiments provided (no salt, pepper, etc.). Cutlery was well stocked. Air conditioning worked very well, in both the living area and the bedroom. The balcony was a good size. TV is decent but it’s not smart. No real complaints about the room itself, but it didn't feel like a genuine four-star standard. One thing to note, entertainment in nearby hotels/bars can get quite loud so bring white noise for your kids, this happened to us around 2 or 3 nights out of the 10 we were there.
Housekeeping:
This was a genuine highlight. Cleaners came every day except Monday and did a great job each time. Really reliable and thorough.
Staff & Service:
This was the weakest part of the stay I felt. Reception staff were fine but not particularly warm or helpful, mostly young staff. It was a similar story around the pool, particularly at the pool bar, where staff generally weren't very friendly except for one older man.
My experience of the pool staff was disappointing. When I asked about exchanging towels, I was told "I don't know" twice by a lifeguard, with no attempt to find out or point me toward someone who could help. Overall, a noticeable lack of friendliness and helpfulness from a lot of staff members.
Food & Breakfast
Breakfast ran from roughly 8:00 to 10:30 and had a wide selection, but it was extremely busy and felt like a bit of a scramble each morning, borderline overwhelming with people moving in every direction to grab food. The selection leaned more Mediterranean than what we'd be used to from an Irish perspective, though there were various egg options etc. available.
We hadn't booked all-inclusive, and looking at the menu it seemed like a lot of items weren't included and would need to be paid for separately, so in hindsight we were glad we skipped the all-inclusive option. One nice touch: on departure morning, despite our early flight, they opened the breakfast area with a limited but appreciated selection so we could grab something before leaving.
Pool & Facilities
The pool area, while nice, was quite cramped, especially in the afternoons when it got busy and uncomfortable. Sunbed availability was an issue too, plenty of signage discouraging reserving sunbeds, but people did it anyway. There are hedges dividing different sunbed sections, so if you don't get one near the pool early in the morning, you can end up behind a hedge, making it harder to keep an eye on your kids. The pool water itself was perfect. Next time, a hotel with a bigger pool would be a priority.
Pool activities were a bit thin, the inflatable water mat only came out once all week (on the Saturday), compared to daily 20-minute sessions at a hotel we stayed at the previous year. There was water polo, water volleyball, and aqua aerobics, though these took up a good amount of pool space while running.
The indoor pool and sauna appeared to be non-functional for most of the stay, we were told they were closed for the winter months, which wasn't ideal.
Kids Club & Entertainment:
The kids club ran from 10:30 to 12:30 and was genuinely good. Staff would either return your child to you at the pool or you could collect them, and if your child wanted to leave early, they'd track you down wherever you'd noted you would be on the list. Well organised.
Entertainment was standard hotel fare, including a reptile show. One word of caution here: photo opportunities with the animals came with a catch, I queued up expecting to take my own photo of my child, only to discover partway through that the handler was actually selling the photos, and I ended up paying €50 for pictures with the reptile by the time I reached the front. This could be communicated far more clearly upfront.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the hotel was fine, decent location, excellent cleaning staff, good kids club, but let down by unfriendly/unhelpful staff around the pool and reception, a cramped pool area, and facilities (sauna, indoor pool) that weren't actually available. It's marketed as four-star but felt more like a solid 3.5."
