"My partner and I visited for the final week of September. We arrived early morning approx. 3am following our flight, we were offered food and drinks in the restaurant whilst the staff on reception dealt with our passports. The gentleman on the desk had fantastic English, as did all of the staff, we would often hear them switching between Spanish/German/English as if it was second nature which was crazy to us Brits! The room was lovely and clean, smelt lovely, each day the cleaners would tidy up our room, make the bed and leave it smelling lovely. It was my birthday during our stay and the staff kindly filled our fridge with lots of refreshments and the view from our balcony was beautiful, looking out to the sea and the pool and was a pleasure to wake up to every morning. Canyamel itself is lovely and quiet, exactly what we wanted, very small town with a few small shops. Beach is within a 3 minute walk, and again, was lovely and quiet, sea was crystal clear, lovely landscape, and where it was a large beach did not feel at any point overcrowded. We visited the Caves D'Arta which was approximately a 30 minute walk (at some points quite uphill, but manageable for most) from the hotel. Entry was approximately £12 and we would highly recommend this, they were beautiful caves, we did not wait long at all to join a tour. Our tour guide asked which languages were spoken in the group to cater for everyone. We later came back to the hotel the same day to find our tour guide was also working on reception at the hotel! He was absolutely lovely, very friendly and helpful. Pool was lovely and clean, we weren't fighting for sun loungers even if we disappeared and came back at any point during the day.
We paid for all inclusive, and the only downfall for myself, as a vegetarian, was the food. Labelling of food was very poor, only in Spanish/German (which is okay as we luckily had google translate), however the only indication of anything being vegetarian was small "vegano" signs which were oddly placed, not clear what dish they were labelling, at one point it was above pork loin which clearly is not "vegano"!! Additionally, only main dishes were labelled, and the salad section seemed to not be, at times I had to guess what was in dishes that appeared to not have meat, however once I'd asked I'd found out the dish I'd guessed to be vegetarian contained fish (there was no indication/labelling of what it contained), this did concern me considering some people may have allergies with potentially more serious consequences, whereas being vegetarian is obviously my preference. On the days where there were more vegetarian options, these were lovely e.g. mushroom risotto, vegetable soup, lovely salads and vegetables. My partner (who eats meat), really enjoyed the food. For those without allergies/food preferences there is a wide variety of dishes and meats available for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Drinks were great on the whole, some were incredibly sweet which is not to everyone's taste. Desserts were lovely, huge range of choice, and a wide range of fruit.
During the day there was entertainment such as aqua aerobics. Music was playing throughout the day. Juma (entertainer) was lovely, introduced himself on the first day and let us know what entertainment was on. He'd go out of his way to make sure people were happy. He'd always stop to say hello even when we saw him outside of the hotel. Entertainment in the evenings was every other day and whilst we stayed were live singers which we both really enjoyed. However if you look at the entertainment timetable this is slightly misleading as it suggests there is entertainment every night which is not the case, however the bar does play music and closes at 11.
There are board games available to use, as well as a table tennis table and billiards table.
I'm not too sure looking at other people's reviews where people have come to the conclusion that those that are English are treated differently? Don't get me wrong, the guests at the hotel were primarily German, but as with all nationalities (including ours!!), you get a mix of rude and lovely people. However, everyone we met at the hotel were lovely, even when there was a language barrier!
Having looked at some of the other reviews, I really do think some people have been overly harsh. I'd definitely take them with a pinch of salt, a lot of it seems to be nit-picking in all honesty. Great hotel for couples, adults only, lovely and quiet. Location is beautiful, quiet, but larger towns (we visited Cala Rajada and Cala Millor) are easily accessed with a small walk to the bus stop. Buses were air conditioned and had an easy tap-on, tap-off system. Bus journeys into these towns took no longer than 40 mins.
Overall, would definitely recommend."
