A glorious hotel that does not get enough credit!
"Just got back from our stay at Bordoy alcudia and We had such a wonderful relaxing week! I feel like a lot of the reviews on here are very biased or lack detail so we have tried to gather as much information as we possibly can! Facilities- The hotel is intimate with all you could ask for in terms of facilities. The reception area is quiet and cool, a great place to just chill for a moment especially during check in/out. The reception staff are super helpful and friendly and check in was very easy and simple. The pool area is surprisingly larger than pictures suggest! The pool itself was a lovely temperature , especially when the sun was shining on it and incredibly clean - Floats and lilos are allowed as well as balls. I was worried the pool area would be a bit too quiet for my taste, but it was always busy, which I felt was nice. There is also a small pool where you can dip your toes in which was very popular with readers and tanners - a nice touch that you don’t often see. Around the pool there are plenty of sun beds to choose from so there really isn’t any sunbed wars, although you may struggle to find a parasol if you go down too late! Some people do reserve beds but since it’s a small adults hotel, that doesn’t cause much problems! There is a reserved area for superior room guests but it was never full so anyone could go there, it was round the corner so if you wanted a more quiet space, this is definietly recommended. Placed out of the way is also a pool table and a table tennis table, which were a nice touch and also quite popular, especially in the evenings, but not close enough to the sun beds to cause any disturbance. Overall, the outdoor area was such a lovely place to relax and spend your days. The bar area both indoors and outdoors was great also, with lots of seating and a nice air conned section which was great for winding down before dinner. The seating area is again well spaced so you can be as close or as far from entertainment as you like, with a nice shaded covered outdoor area too. Chairs were super comfy and the board games table a nice touch! The hotel also has a small spa area which was really nice and clean. It’s well out of the way and quiet and Consists of a gym, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. I personally felt it was too hot for a steam or sauna so didn’t use it much but it seemed super relaxing and good quality for those who enjoy that kind of thing! Rooms We were lucky enough to get a pool view room without having specifically requested one, though we wouldn’t have minded either way! We felt like for the amount of time we were away the room size was perfect with an area for hanging evening clothes and drawer or more casual bits that did not need to be hung up. There was a nice long shelf which was useful to put items on that we would forget if they were away. We also really liked the warm lights and blackout blinds. The bathroom was lovely and stylish, with full body wash conditioner shampoo moisturiser and hand soap provided, so you don’t actually have to pack any if you don’t want to! But the highlight of the room was the bed. The comfiest hotel bed we have ever slept in, the pillows and mattress are so soft. You also have the option of just a regular sheet or a small light quilt (stored above the clothes storage). Plus the size of the bed was brilliant; two small double mattresses together so lots of space to really get a good nights sleep without being woken by the morning sun. Cleanliness My partner and I agree that the hotels cleanliness is probably where it shines the most. The communal areas were absolutely spotless, one of the cleanest hotels weve ever stayed in. Staff are constantly coming around to clear clutter and rubbish and instantly get to work on resetting out door areas the second that the pool closes. Everything felt modern fresh and clean! Unsure as to all the complaints about the cleanliness of the rooms, as we once again were blown away by our rooms clean each day. Rooms were cleaned quickly and swiftly , and bedding / towels were changed as long as you put the provided cards on top of them! The only thing was the shower was slightly worn, but not through a lack of cleaning, just your usual wear and tear that you’d find in any bathroom! Again some of the cleanest hotel rooms we have stayed in! Food Okay, so we have tried to provide as much detail here as possible as we feel majority of the reviews on the food are very biased and harsh. It’s really important to note that this is an all inclusive buffet style hotel and NOT al a carte dining, nor does it claim to be. Of course there will be repeats or staple dishes, that is literally what a buffet is, but it is by no means a disaster which is what is painted to be by what I would think is due to fussy eaters that probably need to know exactly what they are having each night. First of all, yes there is a lot of pork and fish but this is a Spanish island and those are the main meat/protein options in this country so that makes a lot of sense, but by no means is that the only options at all, and the variety in which they are prepared is what makes it super strong. Each night is themed so we tried to get as much information on each night as possible so people can have an understanding of what is available, as well as our thoughts on each night: Every day: Breakfast selection of both English fry up standards - bacon, sausage, fried egg, scrambled eggs, beans, tomatoes mushrooms, potato rostis, continental with cheeses pastries (doughnuts, biscuits, tarts, croissants) fresh bread, cereals, yogurts (passion fruit, strawberry, mango, and regular Greek yogurt) Pancake and waffle station with a range of toppings and sauces (freshly prepared in batch, best to wait for a fresh batch though for warm ones …) and fresh fruit including mango, pineapple, oranges bananas and watermelon. The watermelon was so refreshing and juicy! But the highlight was the fresh omelette station, made to order! There were sometimes small queues for this but 100 percent worth it with the choice of tomatoes cheese ham and onion! Lunch each day did vary slightly and we did not eat lunch in everyday as we went out for activities but there is a selection of meats and cheeses which changes each day, which I found really useful as I could use the gorgeous bread to make my own sandwiches. There was also a very tasty chicken curry on offer one day, as well as some stews another, a risotto, hunter chicken, and even very beautifully seasoned chicken kebabs, again made and grilled to order. Lots of grilled meats like pork and chicken available for those who wanted something a bit more simple. And chips and over bits too. We felt this was pretty standard for lunch and were overall happy with it when we were about! Evening everyday : Here are the evening bits that were available every night alongside the themes Olives, pickles, pickled onions meats and cheeses Build your own salad carrots beetroot, tomatoes cucumbers cabbage onions ect.. Daily soup - the ones we can remember are oxtail, cream of vegetable and minestrone! Fresh bread bar Some pre made salads that varied, fish or chicken or vegetable ect, cous cous, chickpeas. A range of deserts like tiramisu cake, cheese cake, peach pies, tarts, a soft serve ice cream with waffle cones and toppings like sprinkles, chocolate, honeycomb pieces and tubs of different ice creams to scoop yourselves! All very tasty , especially the “mr whippey-esque” machine - would have been nice to have one of these downstairs but not a big deal! Self serve coffee tea and hot chocolate stations with all your milk options : almond milk, oat, soy and cows milk. Self serve juice and water machines Thursday night : Mexican night We really enjoyed this on our first night, especially after a long travel day, lots of variety and options. They really got it right with the sauces allowing you to make them as spicy or mild as you like! Things we took note of : Chicken wings, ribs, fajitas (pulled pork) Qaesidias, jalepeno poppers, three bean rolls Veggie lasagne, Fish in a Mediterranean sauce, Chips, Onions rings, Nachos, Lamb steaks, Sea bass, Chilli, Rice, Quinoa , Spicy potatoes Friday night: oriental night This was my partners favourite night and a close second for me! As people who really enjoy sushi but find it can be normally so expensive and unvaried at Resturant this really blew us away for a all inclusive buffet. The variety and selection was excellent! Things we took note of : Insane sushi spread about 15 different options and 6 sauces, Vermicilli noodles, Duck l’orange, T bone steak, Tuna steaks, Satay chicken skewers, Salmon fish salad, Egg fried rice, Prawn crackers, Gyoza Saturday night: Italian night My favourite night! I personally love Italian food and I was so impressed by the variety and the flavours. Again the accompanying sauces allowing such variety which is a really lovely touch and the foccacia and pizza was baked to perfection. So tasty. Things we took note of: Fresh foccacia, fresh pizza (tomato and pesto, or ham and cheese) a selection of Italian style meats for an antipasti platter , garlic bread, spaghetti (with a variety of sauces both plain, vegetable and bolognese) , ravioli - I believe mushroom with sauces such as butter and creamy mushroom, caprese salad, risotto, mozarella sticks, lamb and gravy, garlic and cheese topped tomatoes. Sunday night: sweet night Now we admittedly had dinner booked this night anyway but did pop our heads in and seemed slightly disappointed with the selection. There were some great features of the sweet night such as a self serve chocolate fountain with lots of fruit and tasty things to dip in it and a lovely pick n mix selection and some freshly baked crumbles, but this took up a lot of space where the savoury options would be. Understandable for the theme, but if we didn’t already have dinner booked we probably would’ve popped out for some fast food and then come back for a stacked desert! Might be up people’s street though and we didn’t try anything so would be unfair to judge too harshly! Monday night : Spanish night? I’m assuming this was Spanish night ? They hadn’t changed the sign when we arrived but that’s what we deciphered.. Could've have been Mediterranean however, but similar vibes! We enjoyed this one , as genuinely was some lovely food - not our favourite night and very cured meat heavy , so we felt full quite quickly. Probably the evening that shared the closest resemblance to lunch, so might be worth doing one or the other if you can, but we didn’t mind too much! Things we took note of: Cured meat selection like chorizo , Iberian ham/pork ect… empanadas pasties and some Spanish pastries , very pork pie / pastie esque. Pork with crackling (this was so tasty honestly some of the best crackling ive had!), spicy chicken wings, cabbage and sausage meat rolls, there were some fish products but I Cant remember the specifics! Tuesday night : Middle Eastern night This was a super flavourful evening as to be expected with Middle Eastern food, with some really surprisingly tasty fish products (i refer meat normally but this was hard to avoid) the kebab shop style meat was a nice touch too again with great sauce selections! A great way to end our trip Things we took note of : pork rotiserrie , with pitta breads and tortillas for serving and creating wraps or kebabs, cous cous, garlic sauce, lamb curry with spiced potatoes (this was actually one of my favourite dishes of the entire stay), chicken tikka masala, rice. Really pleased with the food and the amount available , there were never queues for food and contrary to some of the reviews we thought the drinks service at dinner was great. We rarely stayed up there long enough to have more than two drinks with dinner and was served quickly as long as we got someone’s attention. You just need to give them a wave as they understandably have a lot to do other than grab drinks! The bar We personally thought the all inclusive options were brilliant. There are 6 cocktails on the all inclusive menu , plus one cocktail of the day! The six cocktails available are: (In order of what we thought were best to worst) Pina colada; tequila sunrise; margarita; daiquiri; sex on the beach; Bloody Mary. The cocktails of the day were a few repeats but were as followed - again in order of our favourites : lollipop, pink lady, tutti frutti, blue lagoon. For us - there was nothing on the menu that we would’ve chosen that wasnt all inclusive. Maybe a frozen version of a cocktail but they put lots of crushed ice in it goes a bit slushie anyway! I really wouldn’t see that as much of a complaint as some seem to make it There was also all inclusive options of every spirit and liqueur your could think of, and we really had no problem with the local brands. At the end of the day, when they are mixed in soft drink it doesn't make too much difference. So we actually never upgraded any of our drinks which made the all inclusive so worth it. Though we spoke to one couple who said the only one they missed was a mojito which I understand why people might be disappointed by that. The issue that I found was more so on the inconsistent alcoholicness of the drinks. A lot of the cocktails come from machines , which is fine and the cocktail of the day is in a big jug , again fine, however there was always a difference , some would pour directly from the machines, some would add more spirit and some would make it entirely from scratch. As all inclusive this was fine for us, but we can totally respect why this would be disappointing for those who are paying per drink. We met a lovely and very smart Turkish lady who suggested that the easy fix to this was to ask specifically for more spirit and they did happily oblige. Spirit and mixer portions were more accurate and by accurate I mean very strong! So bare that in mind , they free pour very generously! Beer on tap was estrella and my partner said it tasted lovely! Cocktails are all priced at around 8.50/9 euros each. If you’re a big drinker then I would strongly recommend going all inclusive (which you can do on arrival for €21 per night) , as this can add up quickly. We felt like we got more than our monies worth! Entertainment! I am surprised I haven’t seen more about this in detail so again going to try and be as in-depth as possible As someone who values good entertainment at hotels i was thoroughly thoroughly impressed by both the programme and Martin. How he does it all himself i do not know, and with such enthusiasm and heart each day. Also just talking to him made my heart melt, he really loves what he does and puts so much effort in to meet, chat to and learn as much as he can about any of the guests. He also feels really happy when people get involved and loves to capture videos and moments so honestly get involved with as much as you can , because he really puts as much effort in as possible. The daily activities consist of ; table tennis; darts; rifle shooting; aqua gym and water polo. Waterpolo was very popular and a great way to make friends. Lots of people got involved each day and there would often be an afternoon game since it was very popular. Even to watch it was fun and lots of people would gather round either side of the pool. Aqua gym was super fun, Martin really puts on a show here with his dance moves and gets everyone involved and it’s not too strenuous! Definietly worth giving a go once or twice! Breaks the day up nicely! Evening entertainment happens 6 nights a week, with a chill day on Thursday which is Martins day off so no activities (which was luckily our arrival day so didn’t effect us too much) evening entertainment is from 9.30-11, although I’d love it to start ever so slightly earlier and be a bit longer especially for the events that require some audience participation like the disco and karaoke as it does take people time to warm up to things. I’m sure the live musicians change all the time but here is the schedule from the week we were there, including the night we missed on Wednesday. Thursday : Chill night - no entertainment Friday : live music - Ella (Fitzgerald) and friends. This was a fun one with some old classics. The singer was a lovely South African lady who really got the crowd going, was very funny and interactive and got everyone up for a dance at the end. This was really suited for all ages! Saturday: Disco night 80s and 90s - this had the potential to be really good and I’m sure with the right crowd it would be super fun but I do think 90 minutes isn’t enough time to tempt people up for a dance, Martin was trying but also the dance floor is behind the space , would benefit from being in the middle and maybe some games? But I reckon sometimes with the right crowd it’s a lot of fun! Sunday: live singer - Motown and soul. We went out this evening but heard it was a lot of fun and that there were people up dancing which is positive! Monday: karaoke - my personal favourite night for bias reasons but lots of fun. Not tons of people signed up but those who didn’t seemed happy to sit and enjoy an singalong and join in with those who did. The whole time was covered and really got people going. Martin was a great host! Tuesday: music bingo. This was lots of fun; more interactive than regular bingo. Lots of different songs playing and crossing them off as we go. Winner got a bottle of champagne , and the game did last the whole time , which kept people entertained with some decent snippets of music too! Martin again was great on the microphone! Wednesday: we went home this day but the entertainment was a live band. Looked like some acoustic or light rock vibes, so that should be fun too! Overall a great program with great variety and we really enjoyed every night. 2 hours would be a sweet spot for me (9-11 and then bar open til 12) but what we got was super strong! Staff We were thoroughly impressed with the staff. Everyone was super super friendly. It is a small hotel with a small amount of staff doing their absolute best. Some guests were sadly rude to some of the staff for things out of their control such as queues at the bar (never queued longer than 10 minutes though) , but the staff were always polite especially at the bar and the lifeguards were also super friendly. We couldn’t have asked for more and really do urge everyone to tip the bar staff! Location : the hotel is in a great location with just a 10 minutes walk to the gorgeous beach front ( we recommend entering in line with Lidl and Burger King as this area of the beach is a lot calmer and quieter , as of course Theres lots of families). There are also bus stops jist a 4 minute walk away that take you to all the local sites ; the old town, the port and the airport. A 15 minute walk from the strip as well with lots of karaoke bars and Irish bars open late if you wish to continue the night after the entertainment (we really recommend goodfellas for great karaoke and super affordable drinks) and the walk to the port via the beach is beautiful at nighttime. Also a shoutout to Aqua Resturant at the end of the port, the best paella we have ever had and insane views! Theres a strip of classic beach town shops just on the corner of the hotels road and a pharmacy! Theres a Lidl and a burger king a five minute walk away and theres also a fantastic local burger place that was a nice break up of the buffet one day, that was £10 for a full meal and a drink! But overall , we had a fantastic stay. For a four star hotel we thought it had everything we could ask for and more! Everyone works super super hard , and it shows in the quality of the hotel. We were so impressed and would be keen to return , as it really did tick all the boxes! If you've not booked already we highly recommend you do!"
Save your money, worst hotel ever.
"This is hardly a 4 star hotel, 2 at a push. From the moment we arrived, we wanted to come home. The receptionist clearly did not like guests and could not be bothered to speak or welcome us to the hotel. We arrived at 12pm, too late for the buffet and the only food available was chargeable. The food in the buffet restaurant is pretty limited. There are a very small amount of snacks brought out in the afternoon. Around 20 cheese and ham sandwiches and 20 salad sandwiches and a small amount of pastry's. Once these are gone they are not replaced. Certainly not enough for the whole hotel. Watch out for the drinks as there are many that are not available if you are paying for all inclusive. The rooms are meant to be cleaned daily but when putting the towel on the floor when having a shower, it will often come up dirty. There is a fire exit to the side of the hotel , the door to allow you out in case of emergency is locked. At 11.30pm the staff are quick to ask you to leave the one bar area and go inside. There is nowhere to sit outside. We paid nearly £8000 for 4 adults, this is not a cheap hotel. When we booked the hotel, we were under the impression that there was cooking workshops and other entertainment throughout the day. This was not the case. There is a massive problem with sewage, throughout the day the smell of sewage is so strong when sitting around the pool that we would often give up and go inside. Save your money, so disappointed that we wasted so much money on such an awful hotel."
Amazing
"Great hotel, amazing staff , nothing was to much for anyone. Martin the entertainment chap was brilliant he absolutely made our holiday even better. The pool area and bar is beautiful always able to get sunbeds even though there was 10 in our party, The food was good always hot and we always managed to find something to eat. The AI drinks 🍸 👌 😍 Spotlessly clean Literally a 10 min walk to the beautiful beach, which had love sun loungers and safes ( obviously at a small cost ) 1 of the best holidays 10/10"
