"After obsessing over the reviews for this hotel, I was absolutely dreading staying at this hotel but once we arrived my fears melted away and things were not as bad as they were made out to be.
Yes the hotel is in major need of renovation BUT so are so many other places including hotels in Costa Teguise.
When I was told we were staying in the dreaded E block, I was expecting a walking into a hovel but I couldn't have been more wrong. The block was clean, tidy and well maintained. A tad breezy but considering how hot it was, it was very welcoming.
When we got to our room we found a small visitor on the floor which was no big thing and we removed him and put it outside. Under the sink there was a can of cockroach spray that we never used as we just removed them ourselves. The sofa bed was a little dated and showed signs of wear and tear and the bathroom door had the vinyl peeling off and the wardrobe hinge was incredibly squeaky but nothing that made us want to move rooms. There were two safes in our room but only one was usable and we got the key from reception and paid €35 for a our 10 day stay (€3 per day and a €5 refundable deposit). The beds were incredibly comfortable and spare bedding was in the wardrobe. We slept incredible well throughout our stay. The only slight problem we had with the sofa bed was that the pull out was slightly higher so my husband and I slept on the separate sections which were both very comfortable. The bed put together was bigger than a kingsize so there was more than enough space.
The staff throughout the hotel were so friendly from the second we arrived, we especially loved Sarah and Carlos in the restaurant that were so engaging with us especially my son who has ASD and ADHD and made like we were the only guests in the hotel by the way the spoke and interacted with us.
The food in the restaurant was good (slightly saltier than we have at home) and with two children with ARFID they even managed to eat even if it was the same thing every day. The grill always had either meat or fish and the themed nights like Taco, Asian were lovely. The pasta bar was always freshly cooked with various sauces and the salad bar had so many different types my husband was spoilt for choice. The freshly cooked pizza was delicious with various flavour. The only downside to the hotel was they only do one type of beer and the wine avavilable was white, rose, red or sangria which wasn't to my palate but it was drinkable.
The breakfast spread was incredible with so many different things to choose, the fresh pancake station and churros were a firm favourite with my two children.
The snack bar food was incredibly repetitive but edible but the endless ice cream was a firm favourite. If you want a broader variety of food then visit the restaurant between 1-3pm.
The pool area was ok, we managed to get sun beds everyday but there was more than enough seating in the shade if you didnt want to lie in the sun. The pool does need repairing and there were large patches of cracked plaster which could cause injury due to sharp edges. The only complaint I have about a staff member is the young lifeguard at the weekends who could not been less bothered about his job. He sat the whole time in front of the pool tables drinking, smoking and watching his phone which was the complete opposite to the other life guard who was always on the move ensuring sun beds were lined up to not create hazard and watching the water.
The entertainment staff were lovely and did some great activities that involved everyone in the water and myself and son even took part in one which was great fun. The pool area also has a shelving unit for people to leave items like suncream, inflatables and even clothing which came in handy.
We didn't access the evening entertainment as that's not really our thing so I cant comment on that.
The Jet2 rep Denise we had was very helpful and accommodating when there was an error to an excursion I booked (Sunday Market) which was rectified but due to a breakdown in communication we ended going to the Market on the normal bus rather than the coach as it arrived 10 minutes earlier than the coach. Please wait for the coach as trying to get back from the Teguise Market on the normal bus is atrocious which cause no end of problems due to my children's SEN.
Overall we had a lovely stay at BlueBay and each review is their own opinion but as long as you have a realistic expectation of a 3* hotel but we might return in the future as we used our apartment for its intended purpose, to sleep, wash and change as there is so many places to visit in and out of Costa Teguise."
