"Can’t understand the bad reviews based on our experience this past week. We got a bargain on this holiday and decided to give it a go despite it being an 2 star hotel, and glad we did.
We had apartment F9, which felt like having our own little hideaway! Up a little staircase to the top of the block with lovely views from the massive terrace we had and the apartment itself is really big- huge living area and separate bedroom and bathroom- the air conditioning in this apt was amazing. Shower was powerful. Yes they are basic in style, but ours had a big flat screen tv in the living area and was perfectly functional if a little dated. Who cares when you’re sleeping and showering in there. Also a positive of F block is that it is right by the side of the back gate, which in our experience was never closed and was a nice short cut down to the town instead of going out the reception way.
Pool was absolutely fine, again no frills but functional and lovely for cooling off. I had a swimming costume with white parts and didn’t find they were discoloured at all. Always loads of sunbeds no matter the time of day which I have to say was lovely as it took away the anxiety of wondering if we were going to be able to sit by the pool (have had this in way more expensive hotels where there aren’t enough sunbeds). Pool bar again functional, staff great and good variety of drinks on the all inclusive. Never had to queue for long. Yes there’s a token system where you keep and exchange your cup each drink but is that really an inconvenience? The cups are small but that’s the beauty of all inclusive- you can always get another one! The snack bar was good too with food made to order and piping hot. The toilets at the pool were always spotless- well done cleaning team. In fact you always saw staff cleaning, sweeping and tidying around the hotel.
Restaurant - always found something and my husband is the fussiest person I know. Lots of salad, pasta, fresh cooked fish and meats. We ate out a couple of nights simply to break up the holiday or because we were already out and about. Breakfast lots of choice of bread, croissants, eggs, full English bits if you wanted that. Again the staff always cleaning and tidying in the restaurant.
The entertainment ladies were always energetic and trying to get people to take part in the aqua fit, water polo, slip and slide etc. we didn’t stay much in the evening as preferred to have a walk after our tea but there always seemed to be a quiz or something on when we returned.
Never had a problem with any noise either.
The hotel is located and built into a hillside backed by forest, lots of trees, very beautiful scenery and surroundings. There are lots of steps around given the hillside but there is a ramp at reception and lift in the reception building. There are also some rooms that are step free by the pool.
As for the much maligned ‘steep’ hill I had read about before we went, all I can say is that these people must live in very flat places, as I would describe the hill (Mount Everest street, haha) as a gentle incline. I am in no way the fittest person and neither is my husband but we simply couldn’t understand all the complaining about the hill. You can see from the scenery all around and in Cala llonga that it is a hilly place. A few of the side roads were a bit steep in places but if you follow the road down to the very end the incline is gentle and you are then in the main bit of the village. And yes, there are always taxis waiting on the street if you don’t want to face the walk back, although it really isn’t that far or steep in our opinion. Appreciate if disabled or have walking difficulties it may be different.
Overall we had a lovely relaxing week, we used the hotel as a base to explore when we weren’t relaxing by the pool- got the bus to Ibiza town (€2.20) one day and had a day at a pool party in San Antonio which we taxied there and back. Cala llonga is a lovely little place with some nice restaurants, bars (try the Pirates bar!) and a little market on a Thursday on the front. Huge beach too.
I would go back again tomorrow."
