"If I could give 4.7 I would. Overall we loved staying at Bahiazul. It’s got a lovely village-like feel about it, all the communal areas are clean and well kept and we found the staff friendly and helpful. Alex on reception was great at check-in.
We booked a week’s stay through Jet2 and I understand some apartments are privately owned so experiences can vary, but the one we had was clean and spacious. It was the most basic of the apartments they offer so missed out on some of the more luxurious features such as pool heating (an extra €30 a day), updated bathrooms and an in-pool jacuzzi as well as one on the terrace.
The negatives were a few bits of the apartment could do with a refurb - the bathrooms were a bit dated but clean. The twin bedroom didn’t have a door to the en-suite which is a bit odd and meant our kids staying in there wanted to come and use the main en-suite toilet for some privacy as there is not another toilet in the apartment on the more basic versions. The en-suite in the twin room also smelt a bit strange, though the kids got used to it luckily. The bed in the main room was a bit rickety and the shower seemed to run out of hot water at odd times. There was also no shade on the terrace so you couldn’t use it that much on a hot day. I think most of these issues are addressed in the higher spec apartments. And they may be refurbing the lower ones too.
The plusses were the main living area and kitchen were spacious and well equipped. The pool and terrace were clean (it was cleaned once in our week stay) and we loved the privacy of it all. You can see into (and be seen by!) the adjacent apartments but only at specific points on the stairs up to the terrace so it feels relatively private.
We had breakfast included and the buffet was excellent - almost anything you could think of for breakfast including freshly cooked omelettes and fried eggs, lots of hot options, fresh pastries, cold meats etc. Fresh fruit was a little limited in choice but could’ve been the time of year (April) and may be better in summer months. Everything was regularly topped up and staff were really helpful. Could get a little tricky to find a larger table at some later times of the service but staff again, always tried to help .
We didn’t eat at the restaurant in the evening as we wanted to go into Corralejo (a €7 taxi ride) and we thought it was quite expensive for a family of 4 as they were generally buffet style and we wouldn’t have got our money’s worth as the kids don’t eat that much. We were tempted by the BBQ and Japanese nights though and if we’d been staying longer we might have given it a go as it looked good.
Overall we loved staying at Bahiazul. It worked well for us as our kids are a bit older (12/15) so it was nice to have space in the apartment for all of us and they could mess around in the pool and jacuzzi while my wife and I relaxed inside or on the terrace. If the kids had been younger it may not have been so relaxing as their room was totally separate from the main apartment with the master bedroom in and had a door out onto the pool so it would’ve been more of a worry if we were more concerned about them being near the water/keeping an eye on them. I think some apartments have interconnecting doors into the other bedrooms so we would’ve wanted that if they’d been younger. We also hired a car for the whole time so we could drive around the island and into Corralejo in the day. The resort is a bit out of town but there is a Lidl and a Spanish supermarket a 5 minute walk down the road so you can get supplies quite easily. There were a few bars and restaurants nearby but we didn’t try them out in the end. It’s generally in a quiet location outside of town, which we liked.
We would definitely go back to Bahiazul, it worked well for our family and having a private pool which we could go in whenever we wanted was great. We also enjoyed discovering Fuerteventura and felt like there was more see so we would definitely go back, though we would probably try to upgrade to a nicer apartment to make it a 5 star stay next time!"
