"6-20 June 2026
We returned to the Alua Suites after a years' break for our third stay and found that it was still the same friendly, comfortable and well maintained place we remembered.
Prior to arrival the reception team and Inma in particular, had been extremely helpful in obtaining the same junior suite as we had in 2024, showing that their customer service remains excellent.
We arrived on a late flight, checking in before 11pm and were provided with a snack due to the restaurants being closed. Our suite was as we remembered and we crashed onto the comfortable beds. The hotel shower gel and shampoo are a decent quality especially after the long day travelling.
All the grounds are extremely well maintained and the maintenance team are kept busy with the extensive complex, dealing with any issues raised straight away. Housekeeping do a very good job at cleaning of the rooms and common areas etc.
although at times the towels were a lot thinner than I remember.
The pool areas are well maintained, with plenty of loungers and sunshades which continue to be in the process of being replaced/updated. I like the continued idea of reusable cups for drinks by the pool as it makes guests more responsible as without a cup to swap you need a token for a drink. Although the number of people who left crockery plates and cups by the pool from the bar food was quite concerning. With the summer season under way I assume that the hotel will better manage the people tagging sunbeds first thing in the morning and not using them until much later in the day.
The Kentia Pool Bar is pleasant and well managed always making us feel welcome, although the dress requirement to enter was not always in place. The lunchtime food there is ideal if you don't want to stray too far from the pool and activities by the excellent entertainments team who this year were brilliant in getting to know the guests and chatting as well as providing fun activities well into the evening.
The main dining is in the Plaza Terra Cafe/Restaurant where we found the food excellent in both variety and quality. And you do tend to find something that really stands out in flavour that you'd never tried before (especially on the Canarias Night). The Chef and his team must work hard on the menus each week. It does get busy just after 7pm for dinner and there can be queues for the food , which is well manged as it tended to be a lack of plates at the first serving station, but some hold ups can be down to people being indecisive with their choices. So if you can eat slightly later it does make a difference and again the evening meal dress requirements could do with review.
The Plaza Bar/The Spot is the main evening place to drink and enjoy the evening entertainment, interrupted slightly this year by the Word Cup. The staff on the bar work extremely hard as there is always several people waiting but the delay is minimal thanks to the efforts of Omar and of course Francis who in particular is a great character and makes you feel like family. It's people like him employed at the hotel that makes it special, Thank you.
The Agua Bar is very enjoyable, and this year there were a couple of acts employed which gave it a "Piano Bar" feel but I suspect these will increase in variety during the full summer season.
Only one issue arose during our stay when the hot water system failed and we had to shower in lukewarm water for 3 days, but this was due to it failing on a Friday evening and the parts not being available until later on the Monday. The staff dealt with this matter in their usual helpful and courteous manner.
Thank you all again for another excellent and relaxing holiday and for making it special once again, we will definitely book again for 2027 (maybe later this year again if we're lucky)
The hotel itself is ideally situated a few minutes walk from the beach and the Sunset Bar (which unfortunately this year was closed for refurbishment during our stay) and a 10 minute walk to the El Campanario shopping Arcade (craft markets on Sunday and Thursday). It is a 25 minute walk to the the Old Town either by road or beach (on which they are in the process of completing a full boardwalk into town) and the beautiful working harbour with the chance to feed the fish and see the rays.
The Sports Bar by the Campanario is very friendly and the Guinness is wonderful.
Also the Palm Beach Club on the beach is well worth a visit for the views and the Estrella."
