"Myself and 2 mates visited Punta Dorada for 4 nights in mid September.
Location is superb, there are plenty of beautiful coves and beaches at short walking distance, and ideal for those who are comfortable walking half an hour along the coastline to Salou where there is a little more going on in the evenings. Cap de Salou, the area in which the hotel is located, is a little up and down for pedestrians and is a much quieter area.
The hotel itself has a lovely small pool area - it doesn't get sunlight in the mornings but this wasnt a big issue as we could take a short wander to the beach and return early afternoon. We never had any problem getting a sunbed, plenty for the number of people who stay in the hotel. Pool towels are available with a 10 euro deposit at reception.
We stayed on bed & breakfast basis, and had no complaints over the food, everything you could want. The fresh orange juice machine was our personal favourites. The bar serves both inside during entertainment and the pool area, and you can buy a small selection of baguettes, salads and fries. Nothing special but did the job for a quick lunch.
We were a little disappointed with the lack of information provided to use as hotel guests. At check in the receptionists gave us little to no information about the hotel, including no direction on our room location which led to us taking the lift upstairs before realising we were in fact on the ground floor. In the room, there was no information, and all we had was a QR code to a website that only had information in Spanish, and even that gave very little information on Punta Dorada itself - more of it was regarding the facilities available to us at Best Negresco, the sister hotel across the road. Examples of a lack of information included housekeeping - we weren't sure if this was provided daily or towel changing procedure etc, and regarding the Ballinese Beds by the pool- i sat on one for half an hour before I was approached by the lifeguard to ask me if I had a receipt for using them. I dont believe there was any information anywhere that suggested there was an additional charge for using them - perhaps it was included in the All Inclusive package.
With regards to the room - we were taken a little aback when we first entered. Our room was one of 5 that is accessible on the ground floor beyond the bar, and with it being the end room, its layout we can only assume must be different to other rooms in the hotel. We had no complaints over the bathroom or bedroom itself, with 2 double comfy beds provided, a working fridge with complimentary drinks provided and ample wodrobe space. However, the strange part was the shower and jacuzzi area. No complaints about the actual functionality of both, the shower was good other than sometimes took a while for hot water to come through, but the location of both was them adjoining the bedroom area with no wall or door to separate, meaning we had no privacy without being inventive with the balcony curtain. Additionally, there was a window facing out directly from the shower and jacuzzi that was only half darkened and looked out to a childrens playground- we checked from the outside and we could see inside. We were sent a survey a day into our stay where we mentioned our concerns but nothing came of it.
A couple of other small complaints - one day housekeeping replaced our towels and only left 2 for 3 guests - we raised this at reception but no extra towel was ever delivered. The TV was basically useless - it seemed to be working on day 1 with Spanish channels only however for the rest of our stay no channels seemed to be accessible. We didnt raise this as an issue as we weren't intending on using it anyway. It had no apps or functions for YouTube etc.
Entertainment - we only caught the back end of one night of it but seemed decent enough.
The weekend we were here, there was the Salou Air Show which was an added bonus as we didnt realise when we booked. Through the day on Friday & saturday there were a range of flyovers and impressive jets flying over the beaches. On Saturday night, there was the main attraction of the Air Show, which meant thousands of people descended on Salou - maybe a time of year to avoid if you are looking for a quiet visit.
All in all we enjoyed our stay, we probably wouldnt choose to stay at Punta Dorada again but with a few small improvements I would be tempted to recommend."
