Estival Park Silmar

"We recently stayed at Estival Park Apartments and, overall, had a mixed experience. There were some definite positives, but also a few issues that affected our enjoyment of the holiday. Unfortunately, I had an accident on the marble stairs leading up to the spa. I slipped and fell, damaging my hip and suffering significant bruising to my back. My husband reported the incident to reception, but unfortunately we felt the initial response was quite dismissive, as the member of staff simply shrugged their shoulders. We would have expected a little more concern and assistance following an accident of this nature. We did contact TUI, who were very helpful and supportive. The food was generally quite average and, in our opinion, could be improved. On one evening my husband ate chicken and subsequently became very unwell, suffering with his stomach for around two days. Nobody else in our party was affected, so we cannot say for certain what caused it, but the timing did make us question whether the chicken may have been responsible. One of the highlights of our stay was definitely the entertainment and bar staff. They were wonderful with the children, friendly and engaging, and really helped to create a good atmosphere. They were probably the best part of our holiday and deserve a special mention. We also found the new cup/token system a little inconvenient. You are given a small wooden token at the beginning of your stay, which you exchange at the bar for a cup whenever you want a drink. You then have to return the cup to get your token back. We understand the reasoning behind the system, but we found it quite easy to forget to return the cup and it sometimes felt like an unnecessary hassle. The location is good, with the beach just a short walk away. However, the walk to the beach can be uncomfortable at times due to people approaching tourists to sell clothing, perfumes and offer hair braiding. We did witness them quickly packing away their goods when police passed, which was a little unsettling. We also didn't find the local area particularly welcoming, although of course everyone's experience can be different. There are certainly some good aspects to Estival Park, particularly the staff working in the entertainment and bar areas, who were excellent with our children. However, the experience following my accident, the average food and some of the other issues meant that, for us, the holiday didn't quite live up to expectations. Overall, we had some enjoyable moments, but we wouldn't rush to return."
