"Great location, on the beachfront and close to train station in Los Boliches (6 minute walk max), taxi rank right outside the front door. On-site parking available at €20 per day (underground) which you pay for on check in. The entrance to the car park is awkward to negotiate, sharp turn to down-ramp across a junction, and the signage is awful - took us two turns round first floor to find the ramp down to second floor parking. Also no signage showing how to get into the hotel from the car park - eventually found a buzzer beside a door which when pressed allowed access to lifts. Really simple once you know how, but without signs/instructions you are left guessing (and stressed!) Once registered, you can come and go from the car park as you like - the barrier recognises your car license plate and lifts automatically.
Lobby and bar area are modern and well-furnished, with a pleasant terrace area at the front - bar staff are absolutely lovely and at the weekends, there is a pianist playing. Drinks prices are not cheap.
We had a pet-friendly room on 3rd floor - spacious, clean and lovely sea view over the pool and a decent sized balcony. Good Smart TV on the wall with multiple channels from various countries but not enough sockets - bring a plug bar. Treats, water/food bowls and dog bed provided which was a nice touch and the room also has tea/coffee making bits, kettle and a mini-bar size fridge for cans etc. They were very stingy with the tea and coffee supplies - these were not refilled on multiple days and we had to ask at Reception and even in the restaurant for replacements. The English Breakfast Tea was outstanding though. The cleaning staff were lovely - very efficient, friendly and a credit to the hotel, as were the restaurant staff.
We didn't try the breakfast but ate in the hotel for three evening meals. Buffet style with lots of variety to suit all tastes - sometimes freshly cooked meat and fish on a plancha, lots of salad and good selection of sweets too. There is a separate area of the restaurant where you can bring your pet to dinner with you.
There are many, many options to eat outside the hotel, which is in a very central location, with supermarkets, shops, pharmacies etc all close. Exploring the back streets of los Boliches, away from the promenade, we were pleasantly surprised at how "non-touristy" the area felt and it's also very flat and easy to walk around.
Overall the Ilunion is a great place to stay, especially with pets, and we would go back in a heartbeat. Not cheap, but they made us all feel so welcome and made a real fuss of our dog, which he loved. We will also try other Ilunion hotels based on the pet-friendliness."
