"This review is for two rooms, a regular suite and monumental suite:
I had booked two rooms and received an upgrade as part of being an IHG status member, which was very much appreciated. Mary was very helpful with check-in.
It was a very nice one-bedroom suite featuring a separate bedroom with a TV and a spacious bathroom (large walk-in shower, bathtub, toilet, and large vanity). There was also a fully equipped kitchen/living room area with a TV.
The air conditioning in my room struggled with the summer temperatures. I stayed for two nights in this room, but the receptionist, Mary, was very accommodating and upgraded me to a different room for the remaining three nights. It was a Monumental Suite with a Parliament view and high ceilings.
The bedroom and living room have a divider—one side is the living room area with a table and chairs, a sofa, a TV, plenty of bookshelves, and ample space. The bedroom side features a seating bench with a Parliament view. The whole area gets plenty of daylight thanks to the large windows, which also have blackout curtains.
The kitchen is accessible through a door; this spacious kitchen is located between the living area and the bathroom. It comes fully equipped with everything you need to cook.
The bathroom is equally nice and modern, with a walk-in shower, vanity, and toilet.
Breakfast times are divided into 90-minute increments to avoid overcrowding. You can pick your time slot during check-in, but you are also able to change it later.
There are two automatic coffee machines with pre-programmed beverages like coffee, espresso, lattes, and much more. There is also a large assortment of quality brand teas, as well as a water fountain with both still and sparkling water. This can be used to fill up the water bottles provided in every room. These beverages and water are free of charge and available to guests 24/7.
The breakfast is served buffet-style with a large assortment of breads, kaiser rolls, croissants, pastries, cheese, cold cuts, salads, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, bacon, and other hot breakfast items. There is a great selection of quality jams and marmalades. Dutch butter and low-fat margarine are available, as well as yogurts and fresh fruits.
Seating is available in the lobby and in two separate rooms that feature different layout options and views through large windows. Right outside of the hotel, you’ll find tables and seating facing the Parliament and a large body of water (Hofvijver). Hotel guests can take their coffee out there to enjoy the view.
The hotel has an automatic umbrella rental machine right by the entrance, costing 3 Euros for 48 hours.
There is a 2-story parking garage below the hotel. It is not managed by the hotel, but they will send a link to guests, which provided me with a discount. I pre-booked my parking online. Pre-booking is advisable due to limited space. The garage door opens and closes using an app. Only one car can drive either in or out at a time, and there is a red/green light to indicate who has the right of way. It is a good idea to choose a small car. I had a BMW X2 rental car, and it barely fit while backing up and maneuvering through the sharp curves between the parking decks. Smaller cars will be much easier to get in and out, though it is doable—I saw some station wagons parked on the lower deck.
The rooms, common hotel areas, and breakfast spaces are completely clean. The hotel staff was outstanding—friendly, helpful, and always asking if they could do anything for the guests. Thank you to Mary and all of her colleagues who made our stay so enjoyable and memorable!"
