"We stayed as a couple at 'Grand' Hotel La Favorita for 4 nights from the 22nd to 26th of June. It cost us over $3,000 dollars for our room and we expected a 5 star experience. Let's start with the bad..
BAD:
1. On arrival, at 3 PM we were shown to our room by Max in the concierge (he was the only postive of our stay). The room was on the 2nd floor, and extremely dark. Throughout our stay, there was no natural light no matter what time of day, as there was an old building facing the balcony in front of us.
2. The rooms are small, no matter which you stay in, they're all the same size. There's no coffee machine in any of the rooms. With how close it is to the sea, you'd expect some sea facing rooms to have a nice view? Nope, you look directly at Imperial Hotel Tramontano which blocks your view of everything.
3. TV has no satalite or smart features, which means you won't be able to watch Netflix before bed or your local TV channels. Yes you're on holiday, so you won't spend loads of time watching TV - but that's no excuse not to have these basics for the price being paid.
2. The pool is situated on the rooftop, which is small but i guess 'does the job', but definately not what you'd expect for a 5 star hotel. On our first day we were charged for drinks we didn't order. Luckily i checked the reciept before signing.
4. We ordered a veg sandwhich at the BellaVista rooftop bar, it was barely eatable. Full of weird tasting mayo, and a couple slices of avocado and tomato with salad. With some fries which come from your supermarkets frozen section. Safe to say, do not eat at this hotel if you're hungry.
3. We were recommended by the hotel to eat at O'Parrucchiano La Favorita, a restaurant within a lemon garden that is owned by the hotel and about a 5 minute walk away. Aside from visiting the Garden - please save yourself eating there and the $150+ food bill. This is by far THE WORST italian food i've had for a very long time. It's actually an insult to call what we ate italian. I ordered a parmigiana, and it was 3 slices of aubergine with chese between and a leaf of basil, for $20+! The restaurant has over 1.000 tables, and is basically a tourist trap factory.
5. Breakfast is buffet style. Whilst the quanitiy of options initially looks impressive, the quality is distinctly really poor. A guy can make you an omlette or pancake 'fresh' to order, but they don't taste nice. The eggs seem pre-cracked in a large bowl and spooned into the frying pan - why not crack them fresh to order? Also i ordered a black americano, it's basically a pot of the cheapest instant coffee they can find (Nescafe is better than what they served). Get yourself a double espresso and add your own hot water.
5. A massage on holiday would be nice, right? Not at this hotel, there is no spa facilities at all on the premises.
POSITIVES?:
1. You may be sold on the location, it is very close to the Sorrento port, so you can get to your boat tours or ferry quickly. That said, other hotels nearby actually offer a lift which takes you from the hotel directly down to the port. You'll have to take the public lift if you stay at this hotel, which i warn you - has a long queue and is chargeable (only a couple of euros).
2. Max in the front desk was really knowledgeable and made our experience of Sorrento / Amalfi really pleasant with great recommendations of trips and how to get around.
Recommendations for La Favorita:
Provide guests free access to the public lift to the port. We're spending $700+ a night, you can cover this cost for guests as a nice gesture.
Ok you can't change the location of the hotel, and the views are what they are for that reason - but you do have a large hotel, why can't you add a spa?
For O'Parrucchiano La Favorita - please get rid of 50% of the tables so your kitchen can focus on quality rather than quantity (they won't because it's all about profit for these guys)"
