Cefalu Sea Palace

"My wife and I spent three nights at Cefalù Sea Palace in early October during a tour of Southern Italy. Unfortunately, despite several positive aspects, our overall experience was disappointing – particularly for a hotel claiming five-star status. A Lovely Room – but No Sea View After a nine-hour train journey from Naples, we were looking forward to some comfort and luxury. Our travel agent had booked a Superior Double Room with Balcony and Sea View. The room itself was spacious and comfortable, with a lovely bathroom, plenty of wardrobe space, an excellent bed, and a furnished balcony. However, the following morning brought a very unpleasant surprise. Our first-floor room was tucked away in a shaded corner, with virtually no sunlight and, more importantly, absolutely no sea view. Considering that we had specifically booked a room with a sea view, we felt rather cheated. Restaurant – Five-Star Prices, Ordinary Food On our first evening, we dined at the rooftop restaurant. We were given a wonderful table with spectacular views across the sea towards Cefalù. Truly beautiful. Unfortunately, the food did not quite match the setting or the prices. Our starters and main courses were perfectly acceptable and tasty, but rather ordinary. The recommended white wine was good, although expensive. The service was also somewhat peculiar. Having told the waiter that we would decide about dessert later, we watched a waitress approach our table, examine our order slip, shrug her shoulders, and walk away without asking whether we wanted anything else. Not exactly attentive service. Breakfast – Absolutely Excellent The breakfast buffet, on the other hand, was outstanding! An enormous selection of bread, pastries, cakes, fresh fruit, vegetables, cold cuts, eggs, and much more. Freshly prepared egg dishes were also available. And a special mention for the coffee: proper espresso-based coffee, freshly prepared at the bar rather than dispensed from an automatic machine. A genuine highlight of our stay. Reception – Disappointing Service One morning, my wife asked reception to arrange a massage. The receptionist promised to investigate and get back to us. When we returned that afternoon, nothing had happened. Another receptionist knew nothing about the request. When he questioned the colleague we had spoken to earlier – standing just a few metres away – she appeared embarrassed but offered no explanation or apology. Eventually, an appointment was offered for late Sunday evening, which was inconvenient as we were leaving very early the following morning. My wife declined. What disappointed us most was not the unavailable appointment, but the complete lack of follow-up, responsibility, and courtesy. Check-Out – An Almost Comical Experience Our early Monday morning departure turned into a rather chaotic affair. We were presented with a restaurant and bar bill, which we paid, only to discover that it belonged to another couple! The receptionist then insisted that our waiting private driver must also be the wrong one. Fortunately, the driver confirmed our name and booking. Back at reception, confusion continued. Our actual bill was slightly higher, and working out how to settle the difference apparently required assistance from another staff member. Eventually, everything was sorted out, and we finally left for Palermo Airport. My wife and I looked at each other in disbelief. Five-star hotel? Really? Our Verdict Cefalù Sea Palace certainly has its strengths: an excellent location, spacious and comfortable rooms, a fantastic breakfast, and magnificent views from the rooftop restaurant. Unfortunately, these positives were overshadowed by poor service, a lack of attention to guests, an incorrectly described room, and prices that seemed excessive compared with the overall experience. Restaurant prices were high, and minibar and bar prices were even more difficult to justify. For a hotel advertising itself as five-star, we simply expected considerably more. A Final Word About Cefalù Cefalù itself is absolutely wonderful. A charming Sicilian seaside town with picturesque narrow streets, a magnificent cathedral, delightful shops, and numerous restaurants along the historic streets and seafront. Even in October, it attracts plenty of visitors – and deservedly so. We will most certainly return to Cefalù. But we will definitely choose a different hotel next time."

"I stayed at The Sea Palace Hotel, Cefalu from Wednesday 30th September until Wednesday 7th October 2026. It was my first visit to the Sea Palace Hotel and the town of Cefalu. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Sea Palace Hotel. My room was extremely comfortable, the breakfast buffet each morning was delicious, one was spolied for choice, and I loved all the fresh fruit and salad items that were available. The outdoor swimming pool and its surroundings were superb, a haven of peace and relaxation. The hotel beach club was excellent, as was the food that was available for a light but very nourishing lunch.The reception staff who were on duty each day were incredibily helpful in giving advice about favoured restaurants for Sicilian cuisine, pizzas and good Italian/Sicilian pasta and sea food dishes. Nothing was too much trouble for them and I was grateful for their help and invaluable advice. The Sea Place Hotel was very clean and well maintained. Cefalu was a wonderful experience, a lovely town, lots of history, fascinating little streets and interesting shops. Finally my thanks to everyone at The Sea Palace Hotel in cefalu for making my stay a thoroughly enjoyable experience, It was my first visit and hopefully i intend to return next year in 2027."
