"⚠️ MOULD IN MULTIPLE ROOMS, UNPLEASANT SMELL, NO REFUND, AND NOW COMPLETE SILENCE FROM MANAGEMENT ⚠️
Avoid this hotel.
We stayed at Domus Libera during our honeymoon and it was one of the most disappointing accommodation experiences we have had.
The room contained visible black mould throughout the shower area, extensive cracking and deterioration to the walls, signs of ongoing moisture damage, and a strong mouldy odour that was noticeable throughout our stay. I have attached photos of the room, along with screenshots of the hotel’s own correspondence acknowledging mould issues and confirming that the only alternative room available also contained mould.
Let that sink in.
The solution offered by management was not a clean room. It was another room that they admitted also had mould, just “not as bad”.
In addition to the mould issues, the room contained a damaged hairdryer with a power cord that had been cut and repaired with tape. This raised serious concerns regarding guest safety and maintenance standards.
The room was also extremely noisy, with poor sound insulation allowing us to hear conversations, footsteps, and movement from surrounding rooms throughout the day and night.
What makes this experience even worse is the way management handled it.
When we raised concerns about the mould, moisture damage, mouldy smell, and electrical safety issues, management dismissed the room condition as simply being “signs of age and wear”. They rejected our refund request despite being unable to provide a mould free alternative room.
As of writing this review, we have still not received any refund and the hotel has completely stopped responding to our emails.
The room condition was so poor that we felt uncomfortable remaining in the property and were forced to secure alternative accommodation at our own expense.
This property advertises itself as a 4 star hotel. In reality, I have stayed in numerous 3 star hotels throughout Europe that were significantly cleaner, better maintained, and offered far superior customer service than what we experienced here.
Hotels can occasionally have maintenance issues. What separates a good hotel from a bad one is how they respond when problems arise. Domus Libera failed on both fronts.
The condition of the room was unacceptable.
The response from management was unacceptable.
The complete lack of communication after rejecting our refund request has been unacceptable.
I strongly recommend looking elsewhere when visiting Rome."
