"Hotel
The hotel is very well situated in the heart of Milan, only a short walk for the centeal Duomo and a major hop-on-hop-off bus stop for 3 of 4 routes.
Reading the various cards notice around my room, the hotel offers room service from dinners and breakfast. There is also a laundry service.
As I sleep with a CPAP machine I kept the ‘do not disturb’ on my door all day to avoid cleaners accidentally damaging or adjusting the machine or mask.
When I returned to my hotel after the first full day, I found a notice on the door apologising for not cleaning my room as the do not disturb sign was on the door.
I thought that was very polite, no one else has done that.
Room 606
The room at first impressions is quite small, just enough space for the double bed, and a walkway around its foot and sides. As you walk in there is a wardrobe until, a door with a mirror (to the bathroom) and a desk with a wall mounted TV above, literally all end to end.
The room is big enough for one person, I’m only staying 2 nights, and I intend to make the most of my stay in the city so do not intend to be in the room much be beyond sleeping anyway.
The room has good tea/coffe facilities - I read on the card next to it that what is in the room for tea/coffee is free, but anything additional is an extra €2.
Theres also a fully stocked mini bar with drinks and snacks and the prices are on that same card.
The room has a small safe, only just big enough to fit my iPad at an angle.
The wardrobe by the door has only a few hangers, but for 2 nights its more than enough. Theres no drawer for underwear though, just a shelf.
The room has a pair of slippers for guest, and a matching dressing goown in the bathroom (more on that to follow.)
Theres a balcony from the room, it is a bit of a step up and the left door does not open fully as it hits the desk corner.
Its quite a long and narrow balcony but better than none.
The room is quite well lit with two spotlights above the area at the foot of the bed, a bedside light (on one side only) , a spotlight somewhere behind the TV and another above the bedside table (under the cupboard containing the safe) then theres a row of spotlights and a bar light all above the headboard.
The bathroom is similarly well lit.
Sleep
As I sleep with a CPAP machine I’m glad to see there is a plug next to the bed on the left side, athough the bedside table is taken by a telephone, so I will have to pull over a stool.
It seems there is nothing on the right side of the bed at all (not even a bedside light).
Its so hot recently (30° +) but the rooms so lovely and cool, when I came in the room I didn’t actually think the air con was on because it is practically silent (only a very faint hum) but its working fine.
Why can’t all air con units be this good?
The bed is a little hard for my liking, and the pillows look confortable but go flat as anything when you put your head on them. Despite this, I slept quite well.
Bathroom
The bathroom is more spacious than the bedroom, and probably over half the rooms’ length.
A decent looking sink and more towels than I would need for one person.
There is also a hairdryer on the wall.
The toilet has a tap and showerhead by the side of it, guessing some sort of bidet?
The hotel provide soap, I dislike the bottled liquid soap at other hotels (it never feels like it does the job) so I brought my own, but this is a good bar of soap the hotel provide so its good to use.
Theres also bottles of hand wash and hand & body lotion on the wall.
The shower looks good, a decent handheld shower head, and separate water pressure and temperature controls.
I think this is the first hotel I have been in that includes a shower chair attached to the wall!
Its so lovely and refreshing in the morning! Both glass sides hinge open (the longer side having a hinge in the middle to fold back in on itself to avoid the toilet) so you have a huge entry.
The water is excelent.
Theres bottles of shampoo and shower gel on the wall but also a small shelf for your own.
Literally the only negative in the bathroom (and its barely anything) the shower drain is loud. Thats all, the only problem and its hardly a problem.
Bar/restaurant
On the top floor is the rooftop bar, quite a hotspot for the hotel - great views, a DJ and table service. Not a bar like I was expecting!
The bar serves cocktails unique to the hotel chain I’d never even turned off.
Not that cocktails are my thing, Jack Daniels and coke is fancy for me!
Be careful going downstairs from here, following the exit sign to the lift (not going back the way I came around the side of the building), I ended up in the mirror image hotel, Hotel Dei Cavalieri.
Breakfast is served in a restaurant on the 1st floor, it wasn’t inclided with my stay and one of the dozens of cards in my room says they charge €30 a day, so I decided to get something out.
Summary
This os a very nice hotel, luxury compared to others I’ve been to in Italy! Perfectly situated in the city.
I have given it 4 stars, but it certainly is close to a perfect 5. Just a shame that Tripadvisor do not allow fractions.
Definitely somewhere I would stay again if I were coming to Milan."
