City Center Hotel

"I have never had such a bad experience, I was in room 604, my friends were also outraged, virtual service, there is no human present, my room to get into bed was "crawling" (I am 1.81 m tall and weigh 87 kg) to get down dragging, my friends could not sleep, we were there on the 17th and 18th, there is a bar in front of the hotel to the left, American Bar, that plays live music and the noise, no matter how soundproof the windows are, it is impossible to sleep, I left a make up room sign and they forgot to put a bath towel, I went down since there is no one there, I called requesting a towel and they said they would communicate and bring it (it happened 2 hours later) I have traveled the world and it was my biggest surprise."

"City Center Hotel is located in the heart of Reykjavik, with that being said there are pros and cons with this hotel. Pros are location, the hotel is centrally located with a short walk to almost anywhere you would like to go. The cons are noise. In the evenings the bars , restaurants often have large gatherings late in the evening and early morning hours. Our room on the 4th floor was super noisy until 2-3 AM on Fridays and Saturdays. During our 5 day stay we didn't see one person at the front desk. Our check in was all via email, text messages and phone calls after securing codes for entry. Not having an international calling plan made communication slow. A lounge was also advertised online using the honor system for drinks etc but is was never available. Something to be noted, if you book a room there, request a room with a walk in shower. The rooms with bathtubs provide a half door for the tub but you can't prevent water from soaking the floor while showering. Getting in and out of the tub is also difficult because it's a high tub, slippery when wet and there are no grab bars."

"Very much an “it did its job” hotel. I don’t think the photos were true to life because the hotel was dingy. There were huge gaps in the floorboards, some of the towels I got were stained, and the refrigerator didn’t work until I got it working again. The biggest concern of mine was the fact that there is no one working the front desk, it made check in and check out confusing and all in all it didn’t feel safe. You had to email or call just to speak to someone, and the doors to the rooms (which you had to put a code in) were also left open every time I’d come and go. The location was very central to everything, but do be warned it does get loud."
