"We had a lovely time here. The hotel is in a great location ,just steps away from the beach and on the quieter end of the strip. Plenty of bars & restaurants to choose from in close proximity. So let's break this review down in sections starting with arrival. The taxi from the airport (10 mins, £12) will drop you off at the bus stop next to bakery on corner as there is no access to hotel from the back road, entrance is then a short walk along the strip and through the open air restaurant at front of hotel.
Reception:
On arrival we were greeted with big smiles by Dimitris & Prezart, who after a quick easy process carried our cases to our room. Both were very informative and cheerful.
Prezart was a mind of information over the duration of our holiday. Nadia also worked on reception, she was in training and always had a big smile for you and always very polite. ( I left one of my travel games for her👌)Paschalis on night duty always had a good night for you.
Room:
This was fine, basic but clean though with the smallest balcony I've ever had and not a very good view (room113). However the shower was great and the room was cleaned every day as well as the bed linen & towels. The safe was free which is a good touch.👍overall we were happy with our room as really how much time do you spend in it!
Pool:
We didn't use the pool as we prefer the beach especially as it's on your doorstep and the sunbeds are free for the hotel's guests. The pool looked nice though, not very big and no pool bar and I could imagine it being a bit of a suntrap. Towels are available for both beach & pool for a 5 euro deposit which you get back once returned.
Restaurant:
Breakfast was what you expect, all the usual, a mix of continental & English. We enjoyed it and had no complaints .The staff: The lovely Eva worked hard and always smiling and friendly. Ellie mostly worked the bar and always had a smile as well. My favourite was Giannis as he was always laughing & joking whilst still being professional.
Stefanos waited on us at the beach, always busy, always happy and he worked very hard. We had some great banter with him especially as I kept him busy with the drinks😁. The restaurant itself is open air overlooking the beach which is great but I think they really miss an opportunity here. It's open to the public at lunch and evening times but apart from a menu stand on the promenade(strip) you wouldn't really know its a restaurant as the tables are not set out that well, no menu's on tables and nothing really to identify it as a restaurant, and it shuts at 9pm as does the bar???!! I can't really comment on the food as we ate out every night as there are so many places to go, we did however have lunch on the beach, we had the mini burger platter which was lovely. Other guests that did eat there said the food was great though.
Bar:
Giorgos was the main person behind bar and after a while we got the banter going between us😁 Ellie also worked the bar day times. There's not really a night time here and no real atmosphere as it shuts at 9pm!!! No idea why because seriously who goes to bed at that time on holiday!!
Out and about:
As mentioned earlier, the hotel, is in a great location plenty of restaurants & bars, spoilt for choice really so don't stay on strip as more at back and up the hills. Our favourite restaurant was Black Stone not far from the bus stop. Do get the taxi boat to Perissa, 8 euro's each way and great fun if the sea is choppy!! Not much in Perrisa but worth a visit. See Prezart at reception if you want to do any trips or want information as he is very helpful. We did the private guide (5hours 250 euros)
to see the main sites Qia, Fira etc well worth it and Chris our driver was very knowledgeable . Also go to the open air cinema as it's a great experience, We see Mama Mia (of course)😂 films rotate every 3 day's so keep eye on notice boards on strip for days of screening.
Summing up:
Overall we loved it here, Kamari is a nice resort, plenty to do but relaxing, bars shut by 1am at the busy end and midnight at the quieter end. For me the only let down is the beach itself, yes I knew it was a pebble shingle beach, but it was quite a mission getting out of the sea as the beach is a little slope and your feet sink and slide especially when sea is choppy. Nearly everyone struggled to get out of the sea, part of the beach entertainment was watching people struggle getting out😂 So if you have walking difficulties be aware of the strain that will be put on your legs getting out of the sea as I mention this through my experience! Would we go back?? We are considering it at the moment as we did really like it here! Many people return year after year at the Hotel Sunshine!"
