Amphitryon City Hotel

"Great location to explore the old town, 5 minutes walk to the entrance to the old town. Lots of day trips we organised through get your guide picked us up less than 5 minutes walk away. Could also walk to harbour's for boat trips which avpided transfers/taxis. Lots of great restaurants near by. Staff were friendly & helpful. Breakfast was the same each day but a good variety. Rooms were clean, room service daily. No storage for luggage when you check out, cases are left in main reception. We were able to pay for a late check out which was a reasonable price. Air con worked well & bed was comfortable. Cocktails in the bar were lovely. Music was often too loud even when only two or three people sat around the bar/pool, this put us off sitting here to read or chill after a busy day exploring before getting ready for dinner. Downside was we were in room 14. This opens right into main reception! Often woken from around 5am of people wheeling cases to the front desk, people loitering for taxis/transfers chatting etc. There was also a big group (over 20 people) who often met in main reception each day before 8am who were very loud. People sitting out for early breakfast could also be heard from our room. Music in main reception was also on from 8am and was too loud. I'd stay here again however but would avoid this room!"

"This was my second visit to the Amphitryon hotel and on checking in received a very warm and friendly welcome back. I found fresh fruit and a small bottle of wine in my room which was a really nice touch. The hospitality team in the bar and restaurant also gave me a very warm welcome. Manolis Snr as Maitre d' was as efficient and as effusive as ever over sharing his knowledge and expertise of wine. His generosity of spirit and kindness are an absolute credit to the hotel. Manolis Jnr, an excellent addition to the team, in attendance so frequently he appeared to never leave. A special thank you to Panagiotis who made remarkable cocktails and entertained me constantly with his superb sense of humour. Valentina, Cornelia and Maria ensured that every customer was attended to with a cheerful willingness that never faltered. I felt privileged indeed to have been able to get to know a little more of some of these hard working people. The food was extremely good with plenty of choices to suit all tastes, both at breakfast and dinner, kudos to the kitchen. Manolis Snr was once again on hand to inform me of quirky places I had not previously seen, together with helpful hints and shortcuts. Manolis Jnr was a whizz with a map and ballpoint pen! Reception were faultless in their endeavours to provide information on any aspect of my stay. The public areas were kept clear and spotlessly clean. My room was cleaned daily, apart from if I said not to clean on especially busy time. Cleaning was adequate but unfortunately not to the same immaculate standard I had experienced previously. The pool area was clean and inviting at all times, however, the worldwide problem of 'towels on beds before breakfast' appeared. In a space that is quite conservative perhaps management could implement the rule of 'no reserved beds' a little more strictly, removing towels from beds that remain unoccupied after 1 hour, this would give guests who are utilising the pool bar the opportunity to relax also. Rhodes has many many things to offer but none more so than the Amphitryon. The sheer professionalism, friendliness and teamwork of the staff in this hotel ensure the return of endless guests. The Management must be extremely proud of their team. If you are looking for somewhere to stay that is in a perfect location, clean, has great food, amazing cocktails, superb staff, fabulous Greek evenings and cost effective then the Amphitryon will undoubtedly exceed your every expectation. If you have time Panagiotis to pop over with a Negroni it would be greatly appreciated, I'm having withdrawal symptoms!"

"Centrally located for access to the old town and the new the hotel is perfect. The rooms are spotless and comfortable The restaurant is modern and looks onto the recently renovated pool area. But it’s the staff , from the tireless and ever cheerful and helpful Sophia the housekeeper who did a fab job of looking after us to the fantastic hospitality team in the restaurant and bar. No praise is too high for maitre d’ Manolis ( a true wine connoisseur and expert) and his team. They looked after us so well we felt like family after a couple of days . From young Manolis and his beaming smile to Panos and his fantastic cocktails and service . Cornelia and Valentina and the waitresses, all were absolutely fantastic. They work like clockwork and we will miss them . The reception staff were all lovely too . Kudos to the kitchen staff who never disappointed with lovely salads and desserts everyday. I even got cake and fizz! It may seem effusive but they really made our holiday . I’ve never had such great service in 4 &5 star hotels . We will be back ."
