"We arrived at Maritimo Beach Hotel at 11pm, we were dropped off at the top of the road, which wasn’t great as you cannot even see the Hotel from where we were dropped off, we had to ask the driver where our hotel was! We had booked with Tui. We had to wheel all our cases in the dark down hill to the hotel about 200 metres! (No idea why they dropped us there as we were picked up from outside the hotel to return to the airport, this was much better) We had a lovely welcome at reception where we were checked in, & taken to restaurant for a light meal. (We were half board) We were then shown to our room, Room 208. We were tired & it was dark, so we were just glad to get to our room, We had booked a sea view room, This room was very compact! Storage was awful, only a wardrobe, no drawers at all, some of our things had to stay in the cases, the photo on tui was a room with a sofa, we didn’t have a sofa, there is no safe in room either, there was a kettle, only cardboard cups, and just a few coffee sachets & tea bags, no milk, this was not a problem for us as we take our own mugs & our own tea & coffee (we don’t use milk) There was a handy fridge. The room was very clean. On waking in the morning, we finally got to see the view from the balcony, this was lovely, however the corner of restaurant is right at the corner of the balcony so people on the corner table & staff could look onto our balcony! We had only booked 7 nights so didn’t bother complaining about the room, the fire exit info on the wall shows room plans around our area & yes ours was tiny compared to the others. We didn’t spend much time in the room, so we did manage, but it was difficult to store things as we bought gifts etc.and only 1 of us could walk past the bottom of the bed at a time! The room was always kept clean,
Breakfast was ok, very poor choice of fruit, mostly tinned or a few apples and bananas but these were cut and went brown quickly, this was probably the poorest breakfast we have had at a holiday hotel and definitely not 4*
We never used the pool or went to the pool bar, we spent most of our time out exploring with our hire car which we hired from a company at the top of the road, & going on the happy train with George, this was great. we did use the sunbeds on the grass a few times but only late afternoon when people were leaving them.
Dinner in the evening again was ok, nothing wow but always something to eat but limited choice, The staff in the dinning room were cheerful & friendly and cleared tables quickly.
We sometimes sat outside after dinner for a drink, the sunset from the hotel was excellent. In the week we had 2 evenings of entertainment, a Sax player who was excellent, and a Cretan night music & dancers, good to watch, (Some people did join in)
We had asked about late checkout room, we were not able to find out if this was available until 10am on checkout day ( checkout is 11am our pick up was 5.30pm) we were told we were unable to keep our room but could have another room, we were told to leave our packed luggage in our room and it would be moved to the new room and we could collect key when we returned from Sissi, this was not ideal but we were prepared to pay £60 euro, as the only other choice was check out and use the showers by the pools. We spent the morning in Sissi, playing mini golf (great fun) & having lunch. On return about 2,30pm we were taken to new room 813 all our luggage had been taken there, wow so much bigger than 208 much more storage, but no view just over the hotel behind. We found it worth the money to have a private shower and a final chill before our long journey home.
We had a great week In Crete. Location of hotel was very good, lovely walk over to Sissi with shop bars etc, very pretty area. Hotel was immaculately clean, all staff were very friendly and worked so hard, We pal to return to Crete but it won’t be at this hotel."
