"We stayed here for 10 nights. On arrival we were warmly greeted and shown to our room. We were also helped to sort out the safe and sort out excursions. Sadly, it went downhill from here. On the first night there was a wedding, which was blaring loud music and karaoke until gone midnight, which kept us up after travelling half a day and being up since 2am. The speakers were right by the room and whacked up loud, which we felt was very inconsiderate to other guests.
Breakfast was okay. Same food every morning, swarmed with wasps (and other guests - fair enough not the hotels fault). Standard stuff. Croissants and cakes were very dry. The man replenishing the food kindly offered my partner the last stale rock hard croissant before putting fresh ones out. We initially thought he was being nice. Some other reviews comment on the smell and hygiene of said man. While “friendly”, he did look rather unkempt and every time he came out of the kitchen his face was full of food - presumably the food meant for the guests. Not a good look stuffing your face while putting it out. Additionally, whilst it was nice to see the management feeding staff, I did not appreciate the staff helping themselves at the same time as the guests, especially when most of the good stuff was almost gone. It would’ve been more professional for them to allow the staff to help themselves after breakfast had closed and when the area was shut off from the public.
There were 2 pool areas. The one by the reception was better looked after but only had a handful of beds and wasn’t very relaxing. The music was loud and it catered for the guests more chummy to the staff; I assume those who leave 5 star reviews and return every year? The quieter pool area used to be part of another hotel, after some research. The area was poorly looked after and maintained. Most of the tables and umbrellas were broken. The stairs to get into the pool were so sharp you had to plan a route along the steps to safely get in and out, or risk cutting your feet. The music was sporadic. Celine Dion remixes on repeat or plain silence? €3,50 for a can of Coke Zero or nearly €10 for 2 ice creams (none of it priced by the way, we had to ask the lady the price as she just wanted us to tap our cards and be gone). In the end, we were so disappointed with the pool area we went to the neighbouring Erofili hotel. We missed a trick as half of the Mediterranean Blue guests were already using their pool and pool bar area. Day by day, we saw more and more of the Med Blue guests there and even spoke to them about their similar experiences. Couldn’t recommend Erofili enough by the way: spotless, friendly and reasonably priced.
The “private beach” is not attached to the hotel at all. You have to walk down a derelict road past a derelict hotel to access it. A bit misleading as we believed the hotel was on the beach and attached to the “private beach”. Maybe an oversight on our part. The beach itself is poorly kept, very tired and dirty looking. You also have to jump down a steep drop to get to it. I wouldn’t use it personally. The sea is very rocky there too.
On to the housekeeping. Very disappointing. The sheets weren’t changed once in 10 nights so by the end we were sleeping on filthy sheets. As you’ll appreciate on holiday you are a bit greasier with all the sun cream and sweating! Pillows weren’t plumped up once. All they did every day was empty the bins and roughly fold up the top sheet. The floors definitely weren’t swept or mopped as the same bottle cap and crumbs were there every day we returned. We ended up leaving the bottle cap to see how long until the floor was cleaned. Sadly it was there when we left. Towels were changed if left on the floor - maybe we should have done the same for the sheets? Although worried it’d be picked up and put back. Apart from the room never being cleaned, it’s a standard Greek room. Nothing groundbreaking but an okay base. 3 stars is a stretch, more like 2.
Greek night was okay. Good value for €18. Standard buffet food but can’t complain. The lady at the bar was stressed and could have done with some help. Drinks, like above were expensive but not great quality.
The last straw for me was the offer of a shower room on my last day. I was grateful for the offer and took them up on it. I had to wait 40 minutes at reception for the room to be ready, which I thought was fair enough as it was good enough for them to offer it. Once ready, I was told to go to room 301/302 (don’t remember now) and the door will be open. To my disgust, there was a naked man laying in the bed. I quickly shut the door and noticed the room next door was wide open. This was obviously the room I should have been directed to. However, this was also a staff member’s room! It had been tidied up but had all their belongings in there and stunk of cigarettes! I didn’t even go to reception as I was in shock, so used the shower at the neighbouring hotel, Erofili. Even if it dint stink of cigarettes, I wouldn’t dream of invading a staff member’s privacy. That also reminds me that to get to the second pool you have to walk past the staff bedrooms. Not a huge issue, but seems a bit of an invasion of their privacy and you don’t want to see the people cooking your food and cleaning your room half dressed and smoking a cigarette, with their pants hanging up to dry outside. Maybe that’s just me.
The location of the hotel isn’t ideal either. Yes, you’re not by the Kavos strip, which can be seen as a plus, but that means you’re not really near any amenities either. You have to walk down dangerous winding roads to get to shops, bars and restaurants. It’s a depressing walk too as many of the buildings are derelict. Sad to see some dead stray cats too. Not the hotel’s fault but the general area is something you’d want to look at when picking somewhere to stay. If you’re happy drinking their expensive drinks and eating their buffet every day, happy days. If you want to go to some other bars and restaurants, stay somewhere else. Saves fearing getting run over of an evening.
Overall, while the staff were generally friendly, this does not make up for the many shortcomings: poor housekeeping, misleading facilities, overpriced and subpar food and drink, neglected pool and beach areas, and a location that feels both unsafe and run down. The final straw for me was the “shower room” incident, which left me shocked and uncomfortable. Sadly, despite its potential, Mediterranean Blue fails on too many basic standards, and I cannot recommend staying here. Please take some of the 5 star reviews with a pinch of salt as they don’t seem to be a true reflection of the hotel. A lot of these seem to be done by regulars? Do your research before staying."
