"We’ve just returned from our stay and overall we did enjoy the hotel, but I would personally rate it as a good 4-star rather than a true 5-star experience.
The positives first: the reception area is absolutely beautiful and the location is fantastic. The spa is stunning and the gentleman working there was extremely friendly and helpful. The staff throughout the hotel were actually one of the best things about our stay. Mohammed at the rooftop pool was particularly lovely, as was the lady working around the rooftop pool area, who couldn’t have done enough for us.
Unfortunately, we had a few issues from the moment we arrived. We had booked a Superior Room, but on arrival we were immediately encouraged to upgrade for an additional €100 per night, which was then quickly reduced to €80 per night. We were shown a room at the back of the hotel which was very dark, had no balcony and really wasn’t what I felt I had booked.
While we were actually being shown the room, water suddenly started pouring through the ceiling and onto the bed! We were immediately taken out of the room and, to the hotel’s credit, were given a complimentary upgrade to Room 214.
Room 214 was lovely, with a balcony, a nice view and a beautiful bath, and we were very happy with the room overall. However, there were still little things that you wouldn’t really expect from a 5-star hotel — cracks in the flooring, a corroded bath plug and a shower that could definitely do with updating. Nothing disastrous, but enough to make it feel more 4-star than 5-star.
We also ordered pizzas through room service one evening and unfortunately they arrived cold in the middle. We were both unwell during the night afterwards. When we told the hotel, the staff were genuinely concerned and immediately removed the food from our bill, which we appreciated.
The biggest disappointment for us was the rooftop pool and the advertised beach club.
The photographs of the rooftop pool are quite misleading. It is much, much smaller than it appears online and there are no normal sun loungers. There is one day bed, which can also be booked by external visitors rather than being reserved for hotel guests, and the remaining seating is wooden deck chairs. This means that unless you manage to reserve the one day bed in advance, you are sitting upright rather than being able to lie around the pool. That really needs to be made clearer in the hotel photographs and description.
Having said that, the rooftop pool itself is lovely, the service up there was excellent and we really enjoyed our lunch.
We were also under the impression from the hotel advertising that we would have access to an associated beach club. In reality, it is away from the hotel, costs around €50 per person and was fully booked when we tried to use it. So I definitely wouldn’t book this hotel assuming that a beach club experience is readily available as part of your stay.
The hotel did make a genuine effort to put things right. We were given a complimentary lunch and breakfast to compensate for the problems we experienced, which was very kind and we really appreciated the gesture.
Overall, the location, beautiful reception, gorgeous spa and genuinely lovely staff are the hotel’s strongest points. I would stay again, but I would definitely choose one of the better rooms with a balcony and would avoid the darker rooms at the back of the hotel.
I would also recommend contacting the hotel before arriving if using the rooftop pool is important to you, particularly if you want the day bed.
A lovely hotel in many ways, with some fantastic staff, but based on our experience and the condition/facilities, I would describe it as a good 4-star hotel rather than a 5-star."
