"We were in room 2314 and it was more than 800€ for 3 nights half board 2 adults and 1 child of 10. We had a room facing the Pyramids and the view is magnificent, the best aspect of the hotel. The room is of good size for a 5 star hotel and also the size of the bathroom. There is a balcony. The room and corridors are covered in carpet full of dust and even a ball of hair, which lasted all of our stay. Furniture is old and there is not enough light in the bathroom. Wardrobes are big and they lend you bathropes (we were 3 and only 2 bathropes, maybe they are to be shared, the same with flip flops). The bed has very unconfy matress, one of those that if one moves, makes the second person like moving on a ship). Towels of good quality, broken tray for the 2 amenities on it (1 soap bar and a shower cap). The other amenities were in big bottles (very green and eco) but inside the bottle of shampoo with conditioner there was hand soap and not shampoo (my hair was in such a mess). At 18.30 two of the housekeeping members knocked to ask if everything was ok. I reported the issue about the shampoo and the broken reading light but nothing was done. There is plenty of staff but most of them talking to each other and doing little. Imagine, when we got to the hotel there was a notice on the reception desk about complimentary transfer to the GEM, and I asked about it, and they did not know, just send me to another desk. Aren't you interested in a service you have on top of your table every day? They have a complimentary service to get you to the GEM (you cannot cross from the hotel to the museum) and 10$ to the pyramids. Swimming pool of good size, but again, who decided to put slippery floor around the pool? I found a screw next to the pool where children were playing bare footed. I told the guy in charge of the pool, that it was dangerous and the entire place should be cleaned (paper toilet wet in al area if the pool for our entire stay). Nothing was done ir was going to be done. They allow smoking all over, even inside the pool, while children are around. Breakfast has plenty of variety and it was indeed very good. Again plenty of staff around but you see some things to fill up, the floor not shiny and with crums from previous days, windows not clean enough. There is no balance between the number of employees and the service one gets. It is not a 5 star in any case.
We booked half board because the area is a bit hostile to go out and look for a place to have dinner. No buffet for dinner, just a set menu. We tried the worst sea bass ever, a very nice pomodoro pasta, average bolognese pasta, terrible tomato soup, very good lentil soup, hamburguer is average and extrenelly chewy meat. The priorities of the staff are unclear because even their boss' is unclear. You cannot serve the staff of the hotel their dinner first than the guests (the guests arrived first, us in this case, it happened the 1st night) and a long etc. Terrible singer by the pool, no need really.
Again on the check out, they make you wait while someone goes up to your room to see if you took anything from the mini bar. What if there are 20 rooms leaving at the same time? not 21st century solutions.
The best of all, the doorman, I think Ali is his name. Genuine and authentic, wanting to help. Thank you, you are 5 stars."
