"This hotel has a lot going for it.
The hotel is beautifully designed. You can see the money, taste and love of detail that went into it.
(Details matter. You do remember what lies in the details, don’t you?)
Beautiful spaces, light, music, grounds.
True indulgence, with some genuinely brilliant design solutions that cause a delicate tremor in the silver strings of the guest’s soul — mine, my thick-skinned husband’s, and two of our three children, who have only just crossed the border into adulthood.
Baron! Whoever you are, you certainly have a sense of humour.
You have barely entered the room, you open the very first wardrobe — and, oh, wonder!
Not boring white hotel slippers, but daisies!
Daisies smiling at you from yellow beach slippers, yellow as the ochre of the sand, with turquoise-azure straps, just like the Red Sea here.
That’s it.
The holiday has almost happened.
Baron, you know how to spoil a guest!
You walk into the room and find about 50 square metres of space. Room to breathe, upwards and sideways — if you value freedom, of course. And yes, this is the standard room, known here as Deluxe.
And yes — the air-conditioning card is ALWAYS ON!
Such indulgence is beyond the reach of an ordinary five-star All Inclusive.
Baron knows a thing or two about luxury!
Magnificent bed linen, fine Egyptian cotton that always feels somehow cool… What could be more pleasurable when, in this heat, you stretch out for a little post-lunch nap, uhhh?
Baron knows how to create true bliss!
A huge balcony, a drying rack for your swimwear, cosy chairs — and there it is: the Sun putting on its own magic show, a sunset over the dunes.
Baron knows beauty!
Black bottles for proper cosmetics, with golden caps — like little Pharaoh’s treasures.
A bidet. A sanitary shower. Even special intimate-hygiene soap.
And enormous, thick, plump, ready-to-embrace bathrobes — Egyptian cotton again, naturally!
Baron is definitely generous and certainly knows luxury!
The pools…
I’m not going to say anything about the pools. Except this: Baron will please everyone.
Everyone!
For children — slides and shallow water. For adults: want peace and quiet? Want pleasure?
Oh, I have just the thing!
There are so many pools that my children — perfectly adult, by the way — started every morning with a swimming-pool sightseeing tour. They finished around noon, just in time for the heat.
The very first pool greets you as soon as you arrive, opening out before you, a full bowl spilling itself into the Red Sea.
Baron knows pleasure!
And no idiotic microphone animation — there is a separate pool for that.
Luxury is peace, distance and pleasure.
Baron is attentive to your safety.
Security!
It is everywhere. And you won’t notice it. Not at all.
Just like those dreadful plastic, ribbon, poly-whatever bracelets on your wrist.
But if you ask them to pass on something important, you’ll get a call in your room about three minutes after you open the door.
How?
Well, you were wandering through those mysterious corridors, blazing your own trail through the beauty, trying to see everything.
Even your relatives won’t find you along the way.
Baron knows luxury!
Sun loungers?
Always.
Plenty.
The beach service is excellent: they’ll take you to a free lounger, straighten your towel and bring you a cool drink.
Baron definitely knows luxury.
And the sea — the real treasure.
A private coral reef. An endless beach. Snow-white sand turning ochre at sunrise.
Sunsets.
Quiet zones.
Baron definitely knows luxury!
A wonderful lobby bar. A teen bar. Live music. Light.
And beautiful spaces where you simply want to walk around and look.
It is, in fact, very beautiful here.
And very delicious!
Very.
So much so that, for a while, I felt I had entered a Palace: twelve glorious days of luxury ahead of me, and I was back in my favourite fairy tale of the Red Sea.
But someone is hiding in the details!
The tour operator casually sold me a basic Premium All Inclusive.
And I walked straight into a fairy tale.
Daisies in the wardrobe. Egyptian cotton. Plump bathrobes. Silence. Space. Sea. Reef. Sunsets. Bars. Light. Music. Details that someone had genuinely thought through with love.
Baron knows how to create a fairy tale.
And yes, someone is hiding in the details, lurking behind a thick, impenetrable curtain.
And the fairy tale ended the moment I encountered the ultimate test of any luxury hotel — attention to the guest.
Because luxury is not only what you see.
It is what you feel — in the way you are treated once you actually start using all those wonderful things that have been laid before you.
The hotel itself is luxurious.
Extremely thoughtful.
Extremely beautiful.
Every detail seems to tell the guest: you are going to be spoiled here.
But there are 616 rooms.
And that is a completely different challenge.
Creating a fairy tale for one room is an art of design. For ten — there are luxury hotels that have mastered it.
But making every guest across 616 rooms feel like the hero of that luxury — that is the art of service.
And this is exactly where my one star for Baron Palace comes from:
the service — from the moment of sale to the moment of departure — falls critically short of the hotel’s architecture.
As a guest, I should not have to think:
Where am I allowed to go? What can I actually use? What exactly was promised to me? And how do I avoid having my holiday ruined by someone else’s lack of attention?
So we end up with a rather amusing packaging error:
the hotel was designed as luxury — for 616 rooms (!);
the tour operator packaged it as a basic Premium All Inclusive;
and the guest… the guest pays for the difference with her own experience, time and money.
And that is exactly why I give it:
