Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria

"Stunning hotel. The room was wonderfully decorated, the view from our terrace was lovely. Lucky us to not only have a view of the gardens, but also a side view of the sea. The eye to detail and service was Prim' ordine! Everything from check in to check out was perfezione!"

"We are currently here at the hotel and unfortunately, so far, this really isn't a 5 star hotel, usual or deserving of the Leading Hotels of the World brand. We arrived on Sunday afternoon, having been up since 4am, and sat down to order lunch on the terrace. The sandwich I arrived was stone cold as were the fries. My partner ordered a burger, it arrived with two slices of tomatoes, two slices of cucumber and looked very bland and dull. We got to our room, which is quite a few hundred pounds a night, to find no duvet cover on the bed. We thought perhaps this was an Italian 'thing', but on our second night a duvet cover appeared!!! We had 'do not disturb' on our bed room door on two separate occasions, and TWICE now housekeeping have knocked, totally ignoring the DND sign. Staff range from being really very lovely, kind and helpful, to just not. At breakfast one or two of the waiters stand around on their phones instead of passing by each table to see where they can assist guests. Yesterday morning I had to ask for my breakfast plate to be cleared away. The waiter walked past it two or three times and in most LHW hotels, staff whisk plates away more or less as soon as your cutlery hits the plate. I shouldn't have had to ask, after 1 5 minutes of waiting. Today we have come bacl to our room to find we have no water, just a small bottle left in the fridge. This hotel itself is very charming, stunning views, beautiful gardens and lots of antiquities here and there. Yes, its a little chilly at night, but we are in early November so I appreciate that, but would I stay here again? As things stand at the moment - no I certainly wouldn't. We stayed at Villa D'Este in April for the same length of time and that is a hotel of fabulous service, fabulous food and an experience thats most memorable. As is the Bahia Del Duque in Tenerife, and some of the Rocco Forte hotels. As I type this I have emailed the GM to give this feedback in person, so lets see if they take the time to come back to me and listen to my feedback. As a LHW I would like to hope I hear back from the management."

"I am very particular about hotels...ambiance, cleanliness, hotel grounds, and views are a big deal. This was the perfect place to stay. We had a beautiful room with a terrace overlooking Naples bay. The concierge was fantastic and set us up with dinners and a private driver to Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello. I loved the location. It was in the heart of everything, but set back where it was nice and quiet. I would absolutely stay here again!"
