Waterfront stay in northern Bordeaux
Bassins à flot is a neighbourhood that’s on the up, so it could be just the spot to base yourself for a few days spent exploring all the rich history and culture on offer in Bordeaux. And thanks to its waterfront setting and super close tram links – about four minutes’ walk away – this hotel could be a great pick for somewhere to stay.
The rooms here are comfortable and well set-up with everything you’ll need during your stay. They’ve even all got kitchenettes so you can whip up a quick meal, or just stock the place with snacks to fend off any cases of the munchies. There’s a buffet breakfast on offer each morning, too, so if you don’t fancy hunting down the nearest boulangerie, you’ll be sure to find something to your liking amongst the generous spread.
Exploring the city centre is no doubt high on your list, so drop your bags and hop on the tram. Within 20 minutes you could be stood at the iconic Place des Quinconces or lining up for the Museum of Contemporary Art. And if it’s museums you’re after you’ve landed in the right place – from science and nature to wine and history, Bordeaux is teeming with them.
If you are a wine lover, La Cité du Vin is a great place to spend a couple of hours. Housed in a glass tower on the riverbank, the centre is dedicated to the cultural significance of wine through the ages – both in France and all over the world. If you’d rather taste the stuff than geek out on it, that’s taken care of courtesy of the bar on the top floor that boasts a panoramic view of the city. The best part? It’s just four minutes’ walk from the hotel.
