"We had a 9 night stay at Kaila Beach Hotel.
We upgraded from the Family Room to the Deluxe Family Room and it was definitely a good choice. The furnishings were much better, it was a lot more modern and featured a large balcony which could be accessed from either the double or the twin room. I think there are only 14 of this room type and they are located on the front right and left corners of building A which also houses the main reception.
The air conditioning in the room worked really well and the shower was very good. It had a hall area which featured extra storage, a desk and a mini fridge which was restocked with water whenever housekeeping visited.
There was only a single, slow USB charger by the beds in either room (one for each occupant would have been nice). The lighting system was a bit weird and there as a single cut off switch in the bedrooms which makes a loud clicking in the hall like it's some kind of breaker.
The biggest problems with the room was the smell in the bathroom. sometimes in the day and every single morning, the bathroom smelt of sewage and drains. I think the drain system in the building was installed without any way to block the smells from coming back up, it also sounds like the hotel are aware of this but perhaps fixing it is too costly so it's left but it is quite unpleasant. Then there is the restaurant over the road, hotel obviously can't control this but they have live music every night except Sunday evening and it would be fine if it stopped at 11 or 11:30 but it goes on beyond midnight, sometimes beyond 0:30 and it's really loud. I could hear it with the balcony doors shut and earplugs in.
The pool areas here are good but do feel a touch small for a hotel of this size, there is a general pool, a quiet pool and the waterpark pool where the slides are....this one is where water polo and other activities also take place. Slides are good fun, there is just three but it's always good to have these. Lifeguards on duty at each pool during the day. Some areas of the pools need a bit better maintenance.
The hotel suffered two powercuts when we were there, one lasted about 6 hours, the other about 4 I think....I think both were on a Saturday....the hotel kept going, powered by generators, but these were incredibly noisy and the main one is located right by the waterslide pool, meant you had to shout to hear each other.
The entertainment is good but can get repetitive, it was the same shows repeated weekly....and the kids animation show is the same like 5 songs each evening.
Our group got on well with Musa, one of the entertainment team, but was sad that he left on our last day....he was always out amongst the guests in the day talking to them, and would come up to people and knew their names....he would regularly be pushing people in the pool....nearly getting pushed in himself :) The evening games were fun....and embarrassing!....they also do Karaoke several times a night.
The bar staff and catering staff were friendly and efficient. The food selection for me was a bit samey, there as some variety but not enough and while I felt breakfast and lunch were fairly relaxed experiences, dinner was not....it was very crowded and lots of queues which I feel could be eliminated by having dinner run 18:00 to 21:00 instead of 19:00 to 21:00.
The bar selection was fairly good. The cocktail selection is a bit limited at most bars but is better at the pool bar by the main pool, but your usual favourites are not available without payment. If you tip the bar staff they might be more generous with options and measures. The glasses were often basic plastic ones of varying shapes and sizes, some perhaps already beyond their usable lifespan. There are several mocktails which the kids around seem to like. No local coconut liquor or amaretto which are a couple of options I would have liked to have.
The beach is ok, plenty of sunbeds but a lot of missing parasols which for those seeking shade like myself is a problem, it's fairly rocky, not your usual soft sandy affair. You can get soft drinks and beer at the beach on the side of Moss Beach bar (that bar is extra if you want cocktails and other alcohol)....there is also a place that does savoury pancakes, chips and hot dogs which are included. There are two fast food restaurants.....once during a visit our order seemed to get lost and we waited 25 minutes and then left as we had somewhere else to be.
Building A where the reception definitely has had more money spent on it than other buildings, it feels like a 4 star hotel there, most other bits feel like a 3 star.....nowhere does it feel like the 5 star rating it claims.
My wife visited the Spa and she would very much recommend it, it's good value for money and she had the massage she had was amazing.
It's a long way to come to this hotel from Antalya Airport, just over 2 hours by taxi. We enjoyed our holiday here but i'm not sure it's one we'd come to again. It doesn't need much to pull it up to a 4/5 review., but it wasn't quite there for me."
