"My wife and I stayed here for eight nights while I was working in Manchester. Overall, we had a good stay but there were some issues.
Check in was fine. We’d checked in on the app, arrived a little early, but our room was ready which was excellent. The room itself was clean, comfortable, and well maintained. Ideally we could have done with more storage space for an eight-night stay but we managed.
When I first stayed at this hotel you’d get one complimentary drink for each night of your stay. Last time it was one per stay. Now it’s none at all. It’s a shame as it was a decent status perk. Breakfast was still complimentary based on my status.
Staff were friendly and professional. It’s a well-run hotel with good standards.
We did have some issues during our stay, however:
Firstly, we came back one day to find our bedroom door open. Nothing was missing, fortunately. Most likely housekeeping didn’t close the door properly after servicing our room. However, it’s a pretty fundamental and glaring mistake. It takes only a second to check that the door is closed and locked and should be second nature.
Secondly, we had chronic issues with the digital key for our room. It either worked the lifts or it worked the door to our room but it wouldn’t do both. The staff tried to fix it but couldn’t. Initially the staff wouldn’t accept there was a problem but after literally walking us to the lift and then to our room and witnessing the challenges they believed us. On one (of many) occasions they managed to also reset our physical keys so we still couldn’t get into the room! It was exceptionally frustrating!
Finally, there’s no longer an option for freshly cooked eggs at breakfast. Both fried and poached eggs are laid out at the buffet. The latter are like golf balls. We asked for fresh eggs on our last day and although they were brought from the kitchen I’m still not convinced they were freshly cooked. The curved shape on the “fried” eggs implies they are actually steamed, and the “poached” eggs were so uniform in shape and size and had no residual water left over from poaching that I have my doubts there too. It’s a real shame as the hotel used to do freshly cooked eggs on request.
We did eat in the bar on a couple of occasions and the food was really good, although the menu is a little limited. Staff did make a couple of recommendations for local restaurants which were on point! We were invited to, and attended, a reception for Hilton Honors members and chatted with the leadership team. It was a good opportunity to provide in-person feedback which was well-received.
Overall we had a good stay and we’d stay again."
