"It pains me to write this review, as I have been a loyal Du Vin customer since their Brighton hotel opened in the early 2000's. We held wedding afters there, funeral wakes, birthdays, you name it...
I have since gone on to be a super loyal member of the chain, 25+ years later.
This month alone, I have stayed in their Wimbledon location, and their Bristol one, as I tour a lot for work.
However, this current visit to Hotel Du Vin Wimbledon (Cannizaro House) (2nd visit in a month) has been a severe knock to my loyalty to the group.
I am spending WAY over the standard rates for a "Junior Suite" here this evening. Albeit it by my own fault to start, I mixed up dates and booked for the Weds and Thurs next week, and am paying the price for doing so, especially in the middle of Wimbledon season. But I thought to myself, hey, let's throw caution to the wind, Du Vin has always treated me fairly and respectfully off the back of 25+ years of loyalty.
So here we are, in a room so dilapidated. So sad and lifeless. The furniture is tarnished and scratched up with chips missing.
When we checked in, I notified we were coming with 2 small dogs, in line with their policy, and costing me an extra £200 for 2 days (on top of the insane fee I am already paying). They did set up 2 dog bowls, a mat, etc. No issues there, thank you.
Issues here however....we check into the room, get settled, and quickly find one of our dogs eating something underneath one of the radiators in the room. Deep concern here now, as it might have been chocolate, onions, grapes or any number of things toxic/deadly to dogs.
I think to myself, I will sit down in one of the "Desk Chair Ottoman Couches" and smash out the work I am behind on, as I took this room solely so myself and my partner could work comfortably in a nice air conditioned room.
There's a couple of chairs next to a small serving table, and a chair pushed up against a dresser that doesn't fit underneath. This is NOT a "Desk Chair Ottoman Couch". Having had a hip replaced, that I did inform the staff about, this isn't fit for purpose. Furthermore, there are no plug sockets anywhere near the "desk" (dresser) so it's impossible to work at this designated "work spot" anyway.
I spoke with the staff, and explained how I have stayed with Du Vin frequently (3 times in the last month alone), and that this room isn't to their standard...we were given a very confuddled explanation, about how they overbook their rooms most of the time, but regardless, they should be able to find us a normal one tomorrow, maybe even a Deluxe.
I am paying £400 more than their Parkview Suite for this "Junior Suite" (again, I get it, it's Wimbledon season, I foolishly put my faith into the brand here).
I said let's review tomorrow, and went for dinner.
Came back, and we were told we couldn't have breakfast in any of the rooms they serve breakfast in, as we had the dogs with us. So we said "Not to worry, we will have breakfast delivered to the room".
"No, sorry, we won't bring any hot food to the room. We can bring some croissants and a coffee perhaps".
Are you KIDDING me?!
Every other Du Vin I have stayed in up and down the country, I have had breakfast delivered to our room. It's been hot. Eggs Benedict, Full English, Pancakes, no problem.
"Oh, don't worry, you can eat breakfast in the lobby/foyer".
Great, breakfast where guests are checking in and out, on awkwardly heighted tables, away from all the guests who are paying less than you.
But yes, Hotel Du Vin Wimbledon is a dog friendly hotel.
Again, other Du Vin's, NO issue with any of this.
Actually saddened by this. Over half of my lifespan on this planet, devoted loyalty to this brand.
Sadly, this will likely be the last.
I hope you can take this feedback on and turn some things around guys...but I sadly have to raise a caution flag to anyone looking to stay here now.
Oh, and side note, staff have been friendly as always, this review is not a reflection on them at all! Thanks as always."
