"We decided to go to Rome as my wife had made a previous visit, and chose the Suite Villa Borghese for our stay at the River Palace. The hotel arranged for our transfers (pay the driver directly) and the journey into the city a little over 40mins. The hotel reception (Francesco) was, cordial, polite and efficient, and we were up to our room in a matter of minutes. The hotel itself has a strange layout, combining a number of individual buildings, though the decor and theme throughout is purely classical. I did notice other rooms were a little on the small size, but clearly the hotel is a popular choice for American tourists. Our room on the top floor was magnificent, with a number of interconnecting areas and an outside terrace running the length of the ‘apartment’, and spectacular views of the eternal city. The terrace offered to retractable canopies (electric) and a lounge area and separate dining area making it an excellent option for relaxation after extensive sightseeing.
We had one minor issue with one of the TVs in the room, but this was quickly addressed by Matt. The remainder of the room facilities including whirlpool tub and refrigerator all functioned as expected.
The hotel is located close to a tram terminus (though not presently operational) and some 300m from a metro station, from which the Colosseum and Palatine can be reached in a little over 15mins, with a change at Termini. The entire journey is only 6 stops in total, and costs 3 Euro’s each way. Other sites such as the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon all reside a short walk from the hotel, as does the Borghese Garden complex.
Breakfast was extensive and excellent, and covered 3 internal areas and an outside covered terrace. The staff were always attentive and interactive, and special thanks to Raphael and Mirella for their attentive service throughout.
Outside dining options were extensive, with the Popolo Cafee’ being of notable quality close by. Indeed this was one of a few establishments that could present a genuine Long Island Tea, and at a cost of around 10 Euros, represented excellent value for money.
Overall an exceptional stay, and one which we hope to repeat in the near future. Our thanks to all who looked after us!!"
