"We stayed at Astra Suites for the last part of our honeymoon, and overall, we had a very mixed experience.
The room itself was spacious and beautiful, and the view from our room was absolutely stunning. We especially loved watching the sunset from our private terrace. Housekeeping also did an amazing job. The room was spotless throughout our stay, which we really appreciated. However, we did notice that when the shower was not running, there was a very strong, moldy smell coming from the drain. This was disappointing, especially given the otherwise excellent cleanliness of the room.
One disappointment was the private pool. We specifically booked a room with a private pool, but the water was extremely cold, even when the weather was very hot. We really wish the pools were heated, as this would have made a big difference in our experience.
The stairs leading up to the drop-off area are also quite a lot, especially when carrying luggage. When we left, there was only one staff member helping with our bags, and he had to make three trips. Poor guy! We gave him a well-deserved tip because he worked so hard to help us.
There were also a few things that put a damper on our stay. We were surprised when the front desk asked us for a tip at checkout. We have stayed at many hotels and have never had front desk staff directly ask for a tip, so this felt unusual, especially given the price of the stay.
Another issue was that staff came onto our private terrace at around 8 AM without any warning or announcement. Our windows were open at the time, and this made us very uncomfortable. This is something we feel should be clearly disclosed to guests at check-in. What if we had been unclothed, changing, or showering? We really did not appreciate the lack of notice, especially when the terrace is part of the private room space.
We also wanted to enjoy breakfast on our terrace, but because it was very windy, the tablecloth blew around and knocked over our glasses and food. When we mentioned it to the staff member who picked up our breakfast after we finished, we simply suggested that they should have clips for the tablecloth. He told us, “Oh, I have them, I just forgot to put them.” It was frustrating because this was something that could have easily been prevented.
Overall, Astra Suites has a beautiful room, incredible views, and excellent housekeeping, but for the price we paid, we expected a more seamless and thoughtful experience. The views are truly unbeatable, but unfortunately, we didn’t feel the overall stay fully lived up to the price or the expectations we had for the last part of our honeymoon."
